Ex-Guantanamo Inmate Finds Distracted Audience at US Congress
A handful of US lawmakers gave only half an ear to the testimony on Tuesday of a former detainee at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba who spent nearly five years in prison before being released without charge.
Murat Kurnaz, a Turk who was born in Germany, was arrested during a trip to Pakistan in autumn 2001 and delivered to US authorities in exchange for a payment of 3,000 dollars.
Kurnaz spent several nightmarish weeks at the US base in Kandahar, Afghanistan before being transferred to the US "war on terror" camp at Guantanamo.
US authorities determined in 2002 that Kurnaz had no terror links, but claimed that he remained a danger because one of his friends had committed a suicide attack -- even though the friend in question is alive, and has never been found to have terror ties.
Kurnaz was not released until mid-2006, and only after pressure on Washington from German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs invited Kurnaz to testify via video conference as part of a hearing on Guantanamo detainees who are being considered for release but cannot find a host country to take them.
Taking into account the difference in time between the United States and Europe, it was already late in Germany by the time committee speaker Democrat Bill Delahunt gave Kurnaz an opportunity to speak.
Kurnaz, his hair trimmed short and dressed in a black suit, gripped his notes and began to speak, but a technical difficulty prevented the audio from reaching Washington.
Some reporters and members of the public gave up waiting, but after around a half hour Kurnaz was able to be heard -- and he recounted some of the horrific details of his travail.
"I did nothing wrong and I was treated like a monster," he said, describing acts of torture such as being suspended by his wrists for hours on end, receiving electrical shocks and enduring simulated drowning.
"I know others have died from this kind of treatment," he said.
"I suffered from sleep deprivation, solitary confinement, religious and sexual humiliations. I was beaten multiple times," he said.
"There was no law in Guantanamo."
Many of the details are included in his book, "Five Years of My Life: An Innocent Man in Guantanamo," recently released in the United States.
Facing the screen, the majority of seats for committee members sat empty. Barely half a dozen lawmakers came to listen to the former detainee, and most were unable to remember his name, with one even calling him "Mr. Karzai."
The first to speak after Kurnaz was finished was ranking member on the committee, Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, who expressed doubts about the testimony and recalled that the United States was "at war" and needed to protect itself even at the price of making some errors.
And when it came to the question of where ex-inmates should go when their home country refuses them, Rohrabacher said: "I would suggest that any of our allies who have criticized the US should take some of them themselves."
It was past 10:00 pm in Germany by the time Democrat Jerrold Nadler spoke.
"The people who tortured you were committing crimes under American law," Nadler said. "I hope in the next few years these people will be held accountable.
"I wanted in the name of the United States to express for you my regrets and my apologies," he added, to the sound of timid applause from the public.

You got it right.
And what does Obama or Hillary or the Democratic leadership have to say about all this —
about torture in general? ANSWER: Not a damn thing!
The shredding of the Constitution? Nothing.
Extraordinary rendering? Nothing.
Illegal wiretapping? Nothing.
Over a million Iraqis killed as a direct result of economic sanctions - 8 years of which were during the Clinton-Gore Administration? Nothing.
Over a million Iraqis killed as a result of Gulf War Two? Nothing.
Impeachment? Nothing.

And the Amrican Sheeple cheer for Obama the "changer"!
Sincerely disappointing... Fear breads fear... There is no way out, only freedom within;)In layman's terms: We need to take a good look at ourselves as a society and as individuals!

The war on terror is actually the war OF terror."
True, though it was also realisable, oh, as of the launch of the Imperialist West's war machine against the Taliban; minimally, since then (some people guessed this as of Sep. 11, 2001, that very day). It's been obvious, all of this time that the 'o' in 'WoT' is NOT 'on', but and clearly 'of'; beyond any shadow of a doubt as far as I've been concerned. I did not dilly-dally; lagging is not my way during critical crises, when what's needed is to think very sharply and quickly, and without any bigotry, etc.
Besides, Bush made it wholly clear following the Sep. 11, 2001, attacks, and prior to the actual launch of the West's war machinery against the Taliban, that they had had [nothing] to do with those attacks in the USA! We did NOT need to know more in terms of whether or not it could be justified to war on the Taliban. And, damn, a reporter asked the FBI why there aren't legal charges placed against Usama Bin Ladin and Al Qa'ida, to which the FBI agent or official responded that they don't have any concrete proof of these people being guilty in or for the 9-11 attacks; a status that remains today.
That of course makes it all the more obvious that the continuation of any aspect of the GWoT is totally criminal!
For extra "bonus", the famous and great 9-11 widows, the Jersey Girls, if I'm remembering their group's name correctly, also provided us all with a very strong and clear indication of how the 9-11 attacks should and should not be responded to. They totally opposed the launch of the war machine against the Taliban (and Afghanistan), and they did this immediately; while also saying that what was needed was investigation, for there were too many questions that were still not answered. They lost their beloved husbands in those attacks, yet the rest of the USA despicably disregarded what these women said! Surely much "thanks" to the hellbent U.S. "news" media.
Like I said, it's been obvious for a very long time that this GWoT has always been BS, wrong, ....
We can count on this: Whenever, absolutely every time, that the Bush-Cheney-... cabal claims foreign terrorists hate the USA and want to destroy the so-called freedoms and democracy that the U.S. population enjoys, the only terrorists that description fits with are the domestic enemies of the USA; the enemies from within.
They are LIARS and MURDERERS, the sons of the father of lies, who is also the father of murder; upon which I usually expand, adding rape, wars of totally criminal aggression, .... After all, they're fitting, given it takes the sons of the father of lies and murder to commit these other crimes.
The USA really has no foreign enemies; it's the USA that is everyone else's and its own enemy! If the USA conducted itself honourably in this world, then there would be virtually no U.S. military forces overseas. They're only or mostly only there because of Imperialist Empire the USA's ruling elites dream of achieving and to worldwide scale.
Make enemies of those who could be friends and honourably so, and you'll of course wind up with enemies or adversaries you created yourself. You are the enemy, while those who would otherwise be friends will stand up against you; when they have real spines anyway.
It [is] simple, plain commonsense!
We get analogous examples with the information provided in the following resources; one being an article.
www.hiddenFromHistory.org
There's very, critically important information available there; plenty of evidence has been accumulated against the Canadian govt and the three main Canadian churches for their genocide of First Nations Canadians, including possibly 50,000 to 80,000 FN children in the hellbent 'Residential Schools' history of the 20th century, right up to around 1970; and the Canadian govt has now absolved the churches of guilt or needing to be held accountable, for "bonus" treatment. So the FN have formed an international committee to work on indicating the bastards who are guilty and to put them on trial; I believe even in FN or indigenous courts of law, if it's their only recourse. They're appealing to the UN and already submitted a letter, and I believe descriptions of evidence, but I doubt that the imperialists' UN will act as it is legally obliged to do.
The following article, which is very good, also describes new information to me and with respect to how Canada is definitely guilty in the torture of the USA's GWoT detainees.
"Taxi To The Dark Side: The Axis Of American Evil",

I would have provided the link to the homepage, but am not seeing where the link is for the above news index page.
Don't be fooled by the opening, "Was the Mohawk-Oka Crisis of 1990 a dry run for overseas terror? ...", for it's related alright, but this reference is with only the first paragraph, at most two; after which she very well, strongly enough develops with respect to the GWoT now ruled by the Bush-Cheney-... cabal.
IMPERIALIST, COLONIALIST, HELLBENT SCHMUCK WEST!
Wolfowitz has a house here in Bethesda, MD. Should someone call the Montgomery County Police or is this out of their jurisdiction?
The war on terror is actually the war OF terror.
Perhaps a few years at Gitmo might change Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher's mind, if he has one. He's just quoting all the repug's talking points handed down. "Everything changed after 9-11. We're at war..."
To hold someone for years without charging them or letting them have lawyers, etc is the most unAmerican, unpatriotic thing to do. Impeach anyone in office who disagrees with this.
I'm sure Rohrabacher is innocent of any terror activity. She needs to be strung up by her thumbs, administered electric shocks and waterboarding. After all, we are "at war" and needed to protect ourselves even at the price of making some errors. You never know. Rohrbacher could be a terrorist. The only way to find out is through torture.
Hey, at least Rohrabacher was there and stayed ALL that time to give a listen. Where in the hell were the rest of our Congressmen and women?
I guess the point is: no one in Congress cares to hear anything bad about Gitmo and nothing is going to change.
well, of course, we are not actually "at war" at all. The President never brought articles of war to the Congress, the Congress never voted and never made an explicit declaration of war. This is the only legal process by which the USA can declare and fight a war. Everything else is illegal aggression and should result in impeachment of the President for violating his oath of office and committing high crimes and misdemeanors. Congress or at least the so-called leadership is also impeacheable for abdication of authority and malfeasance of duty.
Dana Rohrabacher is the kind of shallow, loudmouthed blowhard our political process now elevates to positions of power. He uses this guy's years of suffering as a platform to score a couple of cheap points with the media and his core supporters. That's what passes for debate in Congress these days.
In Congress as in the mainstream media there is no other way to face the truth about what is going on than to simply avoid it. Pretend it doesn't exist. They know what happens in Guantánamo is illegal, immoral and in the long run counterproductive for the US. So by "not knowing" about it they can postpone having to think and weigh up all what they are supposed to stand for.
I want to know the truth about 9/11 . . . and let justice take its course. But not next year, but NOW!!!!
I agree. We should reopen the 9-11 investigations. If they can put all of our "conspiracy theories" to rest, then we'll graciously bow out. However, there are too many unanswered questions. If someone could list them all again for us, that would be great.
Until the people who have committed (or been complicit in) these horrors, the U.S. will never....emphasize, NEVER...again have any moral standing in the world.
In my day (WWII), we prosecuted Germans and Japanese personnel who had done no more....AND EXECUTED many of them who were found guilty.
The U.S. is an "empty suit" which has run amok with people at the helm who would never have been fit to hold Dwight Eisenhower's or Franklin Roosevelt's jock-strap.
As I approach the end of my life, I am profoundly ASHAMED...EMBARASSED...MORTIFIED...to have lived in the same country as the Dick Cheneys, the George Bushes, the Paul Wolfowitzs, the Eliot Abrams....and a hundred others of their ilk.
I can truly say that I HATE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA...and will do so to the end of my life....until and unless these crimes against civilization and humanity are punished.
And, given the lack of moral integrity of BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES.....I am not holding my breath!!!!!
Fat chance anyone will be held accountable. The Dems are complicit in everything Bush has done.
By the way, you know that according to Madame Pelosi "impeachment is off the table", don't you?
And yet the American Sheeple keep on supporting Obama/Clinton from the same party. I would say these supporters too are complicit.
To members of the ruling class anybody making less than one million a year is subhuman. If some CEO had been there asking for a handout from the taxpayer, all would have been present and accounted for and all ears. We gotta do better than this.
Revolutions do nothing but change the faces of the ruling class. I think maybe government, any kind of government, should go. Anyting is better than this.
The United States will soon be getting its comeuppance by being reduced to a second class economic power--let's hope that we don't cause a nuclear war as we thrash in resistance to being downgraded. We will all suffer for the dangerous folly and hubris of our leaders during the last few decades. This was the folly of both democrats and republicans who were corrupted by monied interests. Read Kevin Phillips' new book "Bad Money: Reckless Finance, Failed Politics, and the Global Crisis of American Capitalism." Its a brilliant summary in a little over 200 pages of how this country got into its present fix. If we the people had cojones we would have a citizens' arrest of Bush, Cheney, et al and put them on trial.
Who were the absent members of the committee? Put their names in the article so we can witness their implicit approval of torture.
Ronbon: I'm not as old as you but I'm over 60, and I've seen a lot in those years. The US has been on a path of deep corruption for most of my life. As Kevin Phillips has shown so clearly in several of his more recent books, the US is following the same path as the other great powers which experienced a gradual build up of power and a relatively quick fall. Happened to Rome, Imperial Spain, Holland, and Great Britain before us. I agree with you that if there is no accountability for the crimes of the past eight years, nothing will change. I'm not optimistic that there will be accountability unless somehow the American people can be awakened. They are presently in a deep state of passivity. I too hate what the United States has become--fat, hubristic, complacent, obnoxious--in sum an obstacle to positive change.
Fanny Carrier made a mistake when she called controlled or actual drowning "simulated drowning". We all need to keep this fact in mind and correct members of the media whenever possible.
Dana Rohrabacher sounds like a real shithead and I reject his notion that we are "at war".
Where do the candidates stand on this issue? That horror should expose all the people who engaged in giving the go ahead to inflict these war crimes against humanity. Our congress is duty bound to find out the truth for American Citizens so that they will know what they are voting for if they vote for McCain. McCain---more of the same. And to think he was a POW. And he is a cohort among many.
bakunin May 21st, 2008 2:46 pm -- "As Kevin Phillips has shown so clearly in several of his more recent books, the US is following the same path as the other great powers ..."
Precisely. For those who may be interested, there's an artiole by Phillips on the subject here.
Bobo, absolutely correct; we need publicity re. who the absent members of the committee were, in case we have any chance of awakening Americans from their deep sleep—dreaming that what we were brainwashed into thinking what we were taught in the history books about America was true.
As long as we are ruled by the worship of Money rather than Truth and RIGHTEOUS ACTION, we are doomed.
"Never give up: never!"
An Iraqi was quoted, shortly after the US invasion, "Different jockey, same camel."
What amazes me is how Obama, Hillary (and McCain) supporters can continue to support their candidates even though the candidates have never actively addressed the issues of torture, impeachment, oil conservation, etc. It is a disgrace, and a betrayal.
Ralph Nader has a position of all these issues. Check it out, but you already know that they match your values much better than any other candidate.
If progressive voters had voted their conscience rather than out of fear starting in 2000, the democratic party would have realized that there are candidates that 'progressives' won't accept.
What is voting out of fear? Those of you who wanted to vote third party but were [falsely] made to believe you were throwing your vote away, and supported Gore/Lieberman (or Obama and Hillary). When you voted for them, that is when you threw your principles away.
Shouldn't someone who represents 'democratic party principles' take a leadership position on the Iraq War, Impeachment, defending the Constitution and the attacks on basic human rights?
bakunin wrote, "I agree with you that if there is no accountability for the crimes of the past eight years, nothing will change. I'm not optimistic that there will be accountability unless somehow the American people can be awakened."
We know that to protect our freedoms we need to be ever vigilant. Well. Since the government is obviously corrupt beyond repair, maybe its time for a little of that vigilantism ...
Looks like lot of congress-people could use a "wakeup call!" Somebody needs to remind these lamebrains that they are elected officials, and if they are incapable of doing their jobs they can be given "the boot" and someone else can do the job-instead.
Under our constitution, anyone can be impeached and removed from office.
Could be time to boot a few rear-ends.
A little boot in the arse never killed anyone, and it's been known to straighten a few people out.
How do we get members of congress to impeach members of congress? Its a pretty tight club. Sure, they argue a bit as a form of theatre, but its a pretty tight group. Ain't gonna happen.
Shame on the U.S. Congress. They don't want to hear the truth because they obviously don't care.
We have a beaten Congress. How can they compete with a Corporate media that only spreads the administration's propaganda? The public has been polarized (remember divide and conquer?) so it is too busy fighting other Americans: Republicans vs Democrats, Conservative vs Liberal, white vs black, etc.
The US is well down the road to fascism. Read "The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot" by Naomi Wolf. She numerates the many actions of this government that echo the actions of Mussolini and the Nazi's.
I hardly think Ms. Rohrabacher can be considered representative of Congress, and the truth probably is that most of them think the sames stuff is going on in Gitmo that most of us think is going on, and cannot bear being confronted with testimony to that effect.
Ms. Rohrabacher on the other hand, wanted to make the news, and like Hugo Chavez, embellished her remarks with ignorant ideological symbols because she couldn't accept the truth if it could somehow be handed to her in a hat. That kind of arrogance just fries my bleep. Something has to be true for all of us because she believes it to be true. One must have eyes and ears to see and hear, and then somehow massaged into understanding. She's riding her cart out there in front of her horse. Facts do not yield to ideology. It will be regardless of the rigors of foisting it on everyone else. Pure unmitigated arrogance.
I believe Congressman Dana Rohrabacher is a man. I chafe at the statements about how all we Americans have been ignoring the evils of the Republican powers that be. We may be more vague about the puppetmasters pulling the strings. But a huge segment of our population knows that Bush was chosen by 5 Supremes, that the 2004 election was hacked and disenfrachised to pieces and that even with the citizens working to make the 2006 election better, at least ten and as many as sixteen of the present members of Congress were not elected. The fact that over 69,000 precincts across the nation still have computer (DRE) voting that cannot be audited and is eminently hackable and that the Republicans are busily figuring out ways to prevent as many minority voters and Democrats from voting or having their votes counted, especially in the swing states, is the reason 2008 continues in jeopardy from this criminally fascist oligarchy. Unless and until our election systems are secured, the criminals, including the lawyers such as Yoo who authorized these horrors in mundane legalese, the violators of our Constitution and standing laws and treaties are brought to justice for at least a portion of their crimes against humanity here and abroad that they have committed, we cannot continue to teach our children right from wrong or heal this nation.
COMPENSATE!
Do you not have such a concept as compensation in the USA? Murat Kurnaz is entitled
to compensation. That is, the government must now award him an appropriate sum of money to compensate for his suffering and inconvenience.
Look Dana Rohrabacher up in Wikipedia and you'll find a draft dodger like Cheney who defended Abramoff."They're portraying Jack as a monster. I see him more as a good person who's done bad things and has to be punished for doing bad things...." Of course a totally innocent man like Murat Kurnaz, who has done nothing should be tortured. His stand against undocumented workers is also disgusting. How can Californians keep electing such a schwinehund? He's a good friend of Oliver North as well. I think Kurnaz should get Rohrabacher's pension and Rohrabacher put it Gitmo for 20 years and not charged with anything. It would give him time to think things over.
Posted by Nietzsche "Revolutions do nothing but change the faces of the ruling class. I think maybe government, any kind of government, should go. Anyting is better than this."
What? You mean anarchy? Do you mean letting people be free to join together with no hierarchy, rulers or bosses? This cannot be the answer!
Just kidding. Nietzsche is right. I want the last bastard out of DC to turn out the lights...if they haven't burned out already by then. This Dana Whorebacher shouldn't be impeached. He needs a short drop and a sudden stop.
All of you so-called progressives simply want to trade right wing masters for lefty masters. Why do you continue to play by their rules? The "Constitution" was written by rich, old white guys to create a government by the old white dudes, for the old white dudes and of the old white dudes. Let them have their government then. I, for one, don't want it nor need it.
Dr. Black Anarchy's assignment for the day to my esteemed 'progressive' colleagues: Read the Discourse on Voluntary Servitude by Etienne de la Boetie. You just might learn something.
And what does Obama or Hillary or the Democratic leadership have to say about all this -- indeed about torture in general? ANSWER: Not a damn thing!
The shredding of the Constitution? Nothing.
Extraordinary rendering? Nothing.

Over a million Iraqis killed as a result of Gulf War Two? Nothing.
Impeachment? Nothing.
Bush's free hand to invade Iran? Nothing. (They gave him the green light to do that "at his discretion," MONTHS ago.)
And on and on.
Still, no wait, now hear this, it's all the rage -- Obama wants CHANGE!
Yeah, right.
Dream on, liberals.
Liberals are as responsible for the US' dramatic lurch to the right -- by way of their spineless acquiescence -- as are those on the right-wing itself.
*Change* the Pentagon budget, as in drastically reducing it? No.
*Change* the distribution of wealth in the US, which has now seen the largest "upward shift" of wealth IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD? No.
*Change* corporate influence over elections? No.
Meaningfully regulate industry? No.
Strengthen labor and environmental laws? No.
Change the status of workers as per their current legal ability to organize and bargain collectively? Are you kidding?
Still, look! Ecco homo -- Behold the man! Behold our Messiah -- OBAMA!!!
Except (and I know this is an impertinent, party-pooper of a question) WHAT THE HELL IS GOING TO "CHANGE" THEN?!
Or should it rather be: Behold the speech! Behold the quite empty suit!
Keep foolin' em, Democrats. Why stop now?
As PT Barnum put it: "There's a sucker born every minute. And two guys to take him."
My point Urthsong. You believe it. In my judgment, he's just a bullyboy and not enough of the things (compassion, source of nurture and protection, wise, etc) which qualify him beyond his apparent anatomy. I'm also certain that women won't accept him as their gender either. He's just not a human and I'm not sure of his life form.
Listen, friends, the bottom line of all this is that when you put rubbish into an infant's brain you get rubbish out. When you indoctrinate kids the wrong way you end up with the America you currently have.
To indoctrinate kids with false ideas and beliefs should be made a crime!
P.S. The brain: it can be tricked! Check my blog for details.
David, love your blog. I do have a lightweight beef with your post here. Who is it that determines what is "indoctrination"? You see, one person's "truth" is another person's "indoctrination". And making it a crime? What politician could we trust to not make us all criminals? Trust me, as soon as force is used on folk we believe to be wrong, we just reinforce their belief.
Why do you think that religious nutjobs of every kind always point to a horrible incident that justifies the shits they are today? The Muslims point to the Crusades, the Jews to the asskickery of the Romans or Germans & X-tians point to the Enlightement to show that they are justified in their militancy today.
Just leave each other be & smack down any that uses force to influence your mind. Simple.

well, of course, we are not actually "at war" at all. The President never brought articles of war to the Congress, the Congress never voted and never made an explicit declaration of war. This is the only legal process by which the USA can declare and fight a war.
Maybe the reason Bush got on that ship to declare "mission accomplished" was to get past some technical definition of the difference between "war" and "any means necessary"? but seriously,
"Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, who expressed doubts about the testimony and recalled that the United States was "at war" and needed to protect itself even at the price of making some errors." Translation: screw you! Many people talk about being at "war" but no declaration, even after all these years. Don't they even call the funding "Emergency War spending"? BTW, did Congressman Rohrabacher back her doubts with any evidence of false testimony? Everyone considers this a war but it's just so ... inconvenient to recognize that officially. Why make it official if you can get away with such a casual war.
ronbon
Sorry sir but I must disagree with you.
Back in YOUR DAY, most of the Japanese and Germans responsible for war crimes didn't swing from the gallows like you're trying to suggest. They got away with it pure and simple. What about the reparations paid out in YOUR DAY, to Japanese mobsters intended for the US Japanese interned during WWII?
Back in YOUR DAY, the majority of American POWS in Japan were shunned and callously left stranded by the US government and US military because of our same government didn't want to upset the sensitivities of the Japanese business and government leaders and their public during the negotiations then taking place.
Back in YOUR DAY the OSS, G2 and the US Armyaircorp were conducting Covert Operations like Paper Clip to give save passage and resettlement to the US, OZ, and countries in South America.
I could go on, there's a huge pile of dirty laundry that should be exposed that took place in YOUR DAY but my point is this: All my life I've heard the same bilge from many others of your generation (YOUR DAY) who waxed prolifically about how things were much better; people more honest, clean and virtuous...that nobody got away with committing crimes etc ad nauseum...
Addendum:
Resettlement in OZ, US, and South America for German Nazi VIPs as a reward for "cooperation" with US authorities...how nice eh?
And back in YOUR DAY it was the German (ex)Nazi Scientists and military officials who were heavily involved in the MKKULTRA Project that destroyed many a Canadian and American citizens their jobs and lives
I have been an American citizen for over sixty years. I have served my nation with pride and it has served me well also. Yet, in this twilight of my life, I have come to understand that much of the American dream is a nightmare, that the Constitution of these United States applies unequally and with a randomness that should repel us all.
Thomas Jefferson held that an occasional revolution was, perhaps, a necesary thing to the perpetuation of our democracy. When I read the comments of some of our representatives in Congress I begin to more fully understand the words of Jefferson. When I see a man, innocent of all charges, who endured years of torture and mistreatment in MY name, I am so very ashamed of this nation's governance and would like to see all those incredibly self centered and undemocratic creatures removed immediately from office.
How is it that I have read all the replies up to mine and not one of you has picked up on the line about one of his friends supposedly blew himself up (though still alive ) there fore of course he must be held because his friend did something...guilt by association. Now in my opinion, this is a very dangerous double edged sword for this government to be swinging. Considering especially the complaisantcy this Congress holds with our Executive branch in all of these matters, as well as We the People for allowing it. And if you ever played the game Six Degrees of Seperation from Kevin Bacon, you catch on that none of us are to far seperated from anyone else. So if guilt by association in this case is let stand, anything done to anyone is to be condoned.
The Constitution is just an old piece of paper according to the man occupying the White House.
According to his minions they can do anything which they please, and of course these actions are in the name of the American People and for our own good. Congress is complacent. I ask what is the difference between this occupation and the one in Iraq (aside from the location) ?
Millions of dead.......while, we as a sovereign nation only slowly die? They spout of how Iraq is in the birth pains of an emerging new democracy in the middle East......as compared to the Death throws of the Nation which was once the United States of America.
Without the Constitution, by what right do they govern? Without our goverment following the rule of law, how is it that we follow....what is it that we follow and allow.......where is it that we are going and when will we have arrived?
I also wonder Who amongst us is truly willing to stand up for the US Constitution?
Impeachment and Prosecution folks or the down fall of a once great idea ....America?
No rocket science here. Congress is comprised of a bunch of cowardsand sellouts hiding under the guise of "officialdom". Waterboard them all, asking them if they really give a crap about what their constituency wants. See how long THEY last until they say anything to stop the torture! And while you're at it, ask them what went on at that closed session in March. Care to bet they don't last 5 minutes? Throw McCain in there while you're at it and see how long he last under REAL torture!

"Five Years of My Life: An Innocent Man in Guantanamo,"
written "by Murat Kurnaz,
a Turk who was born in Germany, was arrested during a trip to Pakistan in autumn 2001 and delivered to US authorities in exchange for a payment of 3,000 dollars."
Kumat testified before the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs. The Republican there shrugged him off...but this was also said by
Democrat Jerrold Nadler
"The people who tortured you were committing crimes under American law," "I hope in the next few years these people will be held accountable."
"I wanted in the name of the United States to express for you my regrets and my apologies,"

Where is the news reportage on Murat Kurnaz?
We can not stop fighting for Change. Obama should be given a chance, because he has defended the poor in the past. we don't know what he will do if becomes president. But Obama doesn't have a History with Free Trade, the Neo-liberals so he may keep his promises. All we Can do is watch Congress, Call them, or Email them let them know how you feel. If they do good job, thank them. if you have to keep sending the same Email, or Make the phone call over and over again, do it. If we stick with a plan, we will succeed.
If you are an American citizen you are responsible for our Government even if it is fascist!
If you don't vote or vote 3rd party or vote Dem or Repub, We are all still responsible...
Before you blame others ask yourself "What have I done?" and if you think that you can't do anything that counts, you are still responsible...and that goes for all the keyboard rebels who point blame here.
You are responsible because you point out what you don't like so you are aware and you better start swimin' or you'll sink like a stone cause the times they are a changin'.
according to the prophecy
Folks been sayin' it for years, "Welcome to the IV Reich." You may wish to recall what happened to the III. How much response from Adolph and crew would you expect? Silence the facts? This time after we turn ourselves into 3000 miles of smoking rubble, no Marshall plan for the US. We'll trade our War Criminals for food and crude.
For the record, Rep. Roarin'-Hacker is a male. And as Congressional Republicans go, he used to be pretty cool. Now he's drifting into B-1 Bob Dornan territory.
