I consider myself a humanist and not one that has the USA tattooed to my backside although I gave three years to the military and so have a right to speak. The economic system that determines all peoples survival regardless of where they exist, also determines what a country will become, much of it the result of chance. In that regard the USA has been lucky, with well-worn imperialist ideas brought over with the Pilgrims. America has taken this country from the people who were here, the European model, without paying them. Some of us here know the story. The so called, "free market market system", formerly American capitalism, and now globalization into which it has now morphed. the US with its European allies has created the current means of controlling everything for the few. The G 8 has developed ever-greater means to develop these ideas and to take what it wants from the rest of the world and its own population.

The African Americans, the Africans, the Hispanics, Asians and Indians have been the slave classes that have built the white European and American wealth. The historic exploitation of the working classes of America brought from the world into its "melting pot" with the so-called freedoms and democratic ideals built from the blood spilled to form, compared to the European monarchies and divine kingship, so called Democracy unique in the world. The freedoms bought so dearly, were the first "Divine Kingship" of the "Robber Baron" and now, corporate power elitism.

To keep the masses quiet and to build the lives of Americans, consumer ideology supplanted education, the study human purpose, as a goal in itself. The economic forces, which have built their power, care little for human development and survival. They care largely for their continued power as an end in itself and for the few who have the most based on its protection with a huge military force, hence the oil wars in Iraq, this to support an auto centered disposable consumer society.

The expense of privilege in the community of nations may become the death of the globe and its entire people as a result of the American and European economic system, now out of control. Many American economists, Jeffrey Sachs, Joe Stiglitz, and others view these historical developments as a threat to global harmony and survival.

American wealth once had an altruistic quality about it. The post-World War II USA, developed the Marshal Plan and cared about the condition of the world. Now the top one percent, those who have taken so much, continue to be supported by the thirty percent of Americans who still believe George Bush, and his myth of global superiority at the expense of the rest of the world. It is clare that to many of Clinton's opinions continue the Bush doctrine, of unilateralism.

We sit on the edge of an environmental and economic disaster. This American system is out of control and the economic meltdown will continue regardless of who occupies the Oval office. The only difference is that Obama is intelligent enough to know that there are fundamental change needed in the way America and the so-called "free world" do business.
Rev Wright, simply addresses continued black slavery in a world of exploitation of all people led by the US and now the power elite in collusion with the government to continue the "American Dream" mentality, represented now by corporate multilateralism and their wealth and power. Corporate elitism cares for itself alone at the expense of all people, the environment, the human experiment, its freedoms, and so called democratic ideals which has become nothing more than an oligarchy.

We should not be too pejorative about Rev Wright who simply rails against the exploitive aspects of the Western mentality and points out the deficiency in the USA of evolved thinking toward the slave classes and the human species. He, having been able to experience directly because of his skin color these abuses is perhaps too angry which limits his effectiveness. His experience in seeing the wreckage of black America and his intelligence, has caused him to take up the defense of the disenfranchised.

America has a history of caring about others, once a genuine American direction, led by people, despite their failings like: The Kennedy's, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and so many others who died for their belief in a better America and a better world, caring about humanity.

The media who carries their continued assault against those, who would in any way, attempt to include different thinking to bear on the so called "American Dream" which has become the world's nightmare must be seen by the masses for what it has become. The media must begin to understand its roll as an objective commentator to the necessary changes that must be made to the USA and the world if humanity is to survive.

The media above all must be changed once again to give democratic exposure to all important ideas. It must present an understanding of the complex thought needed to be brought to bear on global complex issues of survival. A departure from the simplistic superficial treatment ad-nauseam we witness each day which passes for news presented by the Barby-Doll class of newsreader called journalist.

I had my own interesting experience with the Nation of Islam a few years ago. One that reminded me not to accept the corporate media's characterization of people or a movement.

I was volunteering on one of Cynthia McKinney's campaigns in GA. The one after 9-11 when the Democrats and Republicans were doubleteaming her to get her out of the Congress. I was just going over by myself, and doing the ordinary volunteer tasks of answering the phones, stuffing envelopes, going door to door.

Since I was by myself, I was just getting into vans with others going out to an area to go door to door. And, in that campaign, the Nation of Islam had also mobilized a lot of their members for the same door-to-door work. So, without really planning it, I found myself in vans with Nation of Islam members day after day riding out to neighborhoods and going door to door. An interesting experience for a white guy who didn't know much about the Nation of Islam beyond what the corporate media had told me.

What I found was a group of kind and very spiritual people. They were wonderful people to work with. Their Nation of Islam spirituality and my old-hippie spirituality meshed together nicely. We all basically had the attitude to help each other and be kind to each other. And we were all there for the same cause of supporting Cynthia's campaign.

I was very happy to meet those people. And it was yet another reminder to always reject what the corporate media tries to tell me. Especially when the corporate media preaches hate and tries to alienate me from others.

So, this comment by Rev. Wright strikes me. He rejects the corporate media's framing of the Nation of Islam, and instead substitutes his own personal experiences that must come from meeting them and working with them in Chicago.

It saddens me to hear the media pundits and so-called journalists take such a discusting interest in one minister who has preached such controversial statements while they have allowed so many other ministers slide with their sermons. There is so much racism in all this attention, yet not one commentator will talk about it. Why should Obama have to continuously have to defend himself for the beliefs of this pastor. There are so many other religious leaders that do such horrendous things and are only mentioned in the news without all this contoversy. Pat Robertson can claim that he will be dead in a certain period of time if he does not get the donations he needs to keep going. Miraculously, this man got his required donations and his life was spared. He convinces his "ilk" to cough up their money and noone asttempts to warn them that quite possibly they are being duped. And, guess what? Pat Robertson invests in diamond mines. Hey! Does anyone who donate their hard-earned money get some sort of return on their "investment?"

Hillary has as much business buddying up to O'Reilly as Bill had buddying up to Limbaugh. And, yet, she's our "________" to support if Obama is not nominated. There is simply too much at stake to throw it away on personality stuff. Senator Clinton was a brave soul taking on Bill O'Reilly and his crude and rude song and dance number. I was amazed that she actually got a number of complete or near complete sentences out before being rudely (less so than in the past with other guests)interrupted. She is making an effort to reach out to an audience that is unlikely to support her, but if she wants to be President, then she needs to reach out to everyone, not just those who agree with her. Rev. Wright was very impressive during his interview with Bill Moyers on PBS last Sunday. I have gained a lot of respect and liking for him (considering what I knew was all the negative stuff put out by the media).
He is ministering to his flock and speaks their language; I as a white woman could easily take offense, but admittedly, he does speak the truth. We need to castigate the media for their blatant misrepresentation of his message. I suggest those of you so offended by Rev. Wright, view the PBS special with Bill Moyers. You too will be impressed at his professionalism, reasoning, soft-spokenness, calm, cool and eloquent manner.

The Church is paying out BILLIONS to provide care and treatment as well as compensation to those who were hurt during this dark period in our Church's history.

Chunga's Revenge: Please don't be confused. I have lived in DeKalb Co., GA for the last 19 years; this is a very diverse county and black people are the majority here. I was pleased to vote for Cynthia McKinney when she first ran for the Congressional seat and voted for her most of the other times; I was very happy to have a women represent me. There aren't that many women in political office, let alone black women of high caliber. She was replaced by another black woman, then a black man. Most of the black community in this county did not vote for her or she would have been sent back to DC. The last campaign she mounted barely got off the ground - there is no support for her here any longer. Hank Johnson, a black man is now our representative and most of us are satisfied with his performance. Ms. McKinney did whatever to herself. . .

Senator Clinton has been held accountable for all that her husband, Bill Clinton ever did and said. Women often pay a heavy price for their husband's misdeeds. Hilliary is no exception; but she is able and quite capable of mounting an effective defense. AND, she doesn't let the naysayers deter her as she pursues her goals, unlike a lot of other women and some men.

Going back not too long ago, BS o'Reilly (or phone-sex pervert, if you wish) was skewering her husband, the then prez, on Lewinsky, Whitewater, etc, etc. and casting serious aspersions on both their characters!!!!
