Where's George?
So what ever happened to George W. Bush, the worst chief executive this nation has ever endured?
This is an election year. Aren't we supposed to be evaluating the legacy of the previous administration?
In this case, we have a man whose approval ratings are subterranean. Who's sunk us into an endless war based on impeachable lies. Who's dragged our national honor into the toxic mud. Who's brought us to the brink of depression. Who's dropped the dollar into the toilet. Who wants more subsidies for terror-target nuke reactors and more tax breaks for CO2-spewing oil barons.
Who screams "Terror! Terror! Terror!" at every possible moment, but lets Osama bin Laden run free.
What would Limbaugh, O'Reilly and the rest of the corporate bloviators be screaming today if a Democrat had hosted the 9/11 attacks and then let their perpetrator roam the world without capture for more than six years?
The only thing the American people can say with pride about George W. Bush is that we never elected him president of the United States.
Is it a surprise that the corporate media has mostly removed this monster from public view? That instead it has Obama and Hillary yelling over such burning issues as flag pins, memory lapses, and the word "bitter"?
The GOP's very own Nero is now rarely seen. And his puppeteer, Dick "Caligula" Cheney has become equally invisible. When last sighted, he was telling the world that the overwhelming anti-war sentiment of the majority of this once-proud democracy does not matter.
For the record: Nero was the deranged boy-emperor who fiddled while Rome burned. Caligula was the twisted, sadistic torturer-emperor who helped preside over the final demise of a once-great empire. (See the movie of the same name.)
While they should be the daily targets of the Clinton-Obama road show, the ghastly Bush-Cheney has become what Ross Perot said of the national deficit: the crazy aunt that's stashed in the closet and nobody wants to talk about.
That John McCain will further their policies of endless war on Iraq, on the global environment, on working people and for shredding the Bill of Rights, is patently obvious.
How about Barack and Hillary sign a pact. They can snipe at each other all they want.
But they agree to start each public appearance by reminding everyone who's in the White House and what he's done to us all. No matter what moronic questions their debate "moderators" ask them, they can start by asking "Where's George?"
And then they can say: "When George Bush first ran, you insisted he wasn't stupid. If that's true, given what he's done to the country, what's his excuse?"
Or is that too much "spin" for prime time?

Show AllA united Democratic party could be asking "Where's George?" Every day, in every way.
Instead, the Democratic candidates are tearing the party apart, driving away potential voters, alienating supporters of the other candidate.
The two Democratic candidates are selfish mediocrities in a time when the USA desperately needs a hero, someone who will put the greater good ahead of their own self-interest.
I call once again for a united Democratic party that will stop committing electoral suicide and stand together against the common Rethuglican enemy.
It's only April. Are we to listen to Hillary and Barack doing this to each other and to the party and to the country for 4 more months?
The democratic party could and should be holding impeachment hearings, but took it "off the table" because it would be too "divisive" - I don't care about their f-ing careers, I care about justice, and making sure no precedent is set so future Presidents can commit treason and know they won't face any consequences!
Just for the record, I don't think fiddles actually existed during the Roman era, and Caligula was only the third or fourth emperor (depending on whether you make Julius Caesar or Augustus the first one). Caligula was assassinated in 41 A.D. The last Roman emperor didn't die until 1453, when he fell in battle during the Turkish conquest of his capital, Constantinople.
finally, someone willing to say the word depression. on the brink.
as long as gas prices continue to climb, almost daily, we won't be hearing a word from cheney or rice or bush. this has been their pattern for as long as they've been raising said prices. today's gas spike due to a japanese tanker being attacked??? who comes up with these stories? it must be true. no one could make up this kind of shit. and why, if in fact it takes six weeks from the time middle east oil is extracted from the earth until it reaches our gas tanks, are we paying instantaneously when the price of a barrel of oil reaches a new high? as suggested last autumn, the economy is headed toward a disaster of unbelievable proportions, and that come january one, we'd be having the election rammed down our throats and shoved up our asses. this is exactly what has happened. barely a whisper about iraq and afghanistan and the price of gas. our two leaders, one with a smirk and one with a sneer, cowardly and spineless and caustically evil, leading us down the road to hell. and the american sheople, eager to follow. save for most of the political junkies here on common dreams, most americans are so fucking stupid that, sadly, those with a minute level of common sense will be dragged along to a court-side seat of this oh-so-near tragedy. as also suggested, bush and cheney need to be removed from office, by any means necessary.
Dems, closet twins of Repugs, need to resort to the tactic Ronald Reagan used on Jimmy Carter: Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago?
All they'd have to do is tick items off the list: Jobs, housing, inflation (a forgotten word 4 years ago), gas prices, food prices, crime, etc.
Man, that would really kill any chance that a Republican could get anywhere near an elective office.
A quibble:
Nero was no longer a boy when Rome burned; and Caligula certainly did not preside over the demise of the Roman Empire, which was at its height after Caligula, and whose reign was centureis prior to even the beginning of the end.
That's right, militantliberal; Caligula was early on in Rome's history. The old Roman Empire lasted as long as it did, not so much in spite of the emperors and their peccadilloes, as because of the reasonably solid virtues of its ruling class---from whence came the military officers and bureaucrats who kept the defenses, roads and aqueducts in repair and maintained a semblance of public order.
"Caligula was the twisted, sadistic torturer-emperor who helped preside over the final demise of a once-great empire. (See the movie of the same name.)"
PS, keep a supply of Jurgens Lotion and tissue handy.
I cant believe Wasserman is promoting bad 70's porn movies...how about recommending a historical book about Caligula instead? well...maybe he knows his audience
"...All they'd have to do is tick items off the list: Jobs, housing, inflation...."
where real inflation is at 7.9%.. gas prices increased 150% over 8 years...oil $117.51 as of typing up from $32 in 2001, commodity prices up 50-100%, crime up, 3 Trillion Iraq War/occupation, exploding money supply M3 reconstructed at 15%, road and rail infrustucture requiring 1 Trillion dollar expenditure, Katrina disaster still a disaster....and on and on....
Its SO obvious the dems could fight back on any or all of these real issues...everytime either Obama or Billory stand on a podium anywhere HAMMER the point home....regardless of what Stuffenopoulus or his crony offsider has to spew...
locust: It's only April. Are we to listen to Hillary and Barack doing this to each other and to the party and to the country for 4 more months?
Of course. The grapes on the vines of the American Matrix have inherent civic curiosities that must be quelled with pesticides from the Hellary/O'Bama spray rigs all summer long. When the grapes are harvested in the fall they have to taste sweet, not bitter. Do not leave it to chance in a world that has become hostile to the "American Dream" Matrix Program.
If it is so obvious that they should be repeating this mantra, why aren't they doing it? It's because they have been part of the problem with their problematic votes as U.S. senators!!
Bush is in his Texas bunker. We can only hope that Cheney is hiding in his under the Naval Observatory (where his neighbors were complaining of subterranean blasting and construction a few years back).
Here's hoping they both suck the business end of a pistol.
We could only be so blessed...
Is Southern Methodist University still balking at allowing the Bush Library on its campus? Methodists ain't exactly Quakers, and SMU ain't exactly Ivy League, but they are good people and they know a moron war criminal when they see one.
Yes where IS George and Dick and even more importantly WHO is with them.
WASHINGTON - A federal appeals court sought compromise Monday between a liberal group demanding the names of White House visitors and the Bush administration, which says releasing the names would erode the president's power.
Was it not the Republicans who were saying "if we have nothing to hide" then we won't mind Dick and George's illegal spying on us. Is not this Presential objection smelling of treason?
Neither George Wanker Bush nor anyone in the government or military ever wanted to capture or kill Osama bin Laden. Had such a thing occurred, the vast majority of rubes who want nothing more from their president than to sit down and have a brewski with him, would think that the "War on Terror" was over. It's lak in dem ol' movies when de cavalry kills de indian chief, the rest of de injuns just rad owf into de sunset.
YOU guys just don't get it. Bush is not stupid or incompetent. Oh, you are thinking of the Mission Accomplished gaffe? Think again, do not misuderestimate him. The mission is indeed accomplished, because the goals of the mission were:
1) Destroy a potential enemy of Israel
2) Prevent other global competitors from getting access to Iraqi oil
3) Transfer your/my/our children's/grand children's money to his cronies in oil, military, security industry
Now go through this list and tell me whether or not the mission has indeed been accomplished.
By the way, another common misconception is that the dems are spineless. Think again, they are doing exactly what their constituents want them to do. What you need to understand is that you and I are not their constituents rather Israeli lobby, military-industrial complex and big corporations are their constituents.
ANd yet, the American Sheeple continue to follow the BillaryObama train....
Where are George Bush and Dick Cheney?
Busy planning war the upcoming war with Iran and more importantly drawing up plans to declare martial law when the demonstrations begin.
Followed by a hasty retreat to Paraquay to escape extra judicial rendition to some European country to be tried as War Criminals...

Another poster made this comment. I think it explains the picture perfectly.
'Democratic Party hacks would rather elect a Republican hack than a Democratic Reformer.'
This is Common Dreams-So F the Dem party and vote for Ralph Nader!
And if that ain't your perspective you are a Troll!
Go Obama '08 Obama '08 Obama '08.
Lino:
You forgot the price of gas went up because the tanker truck got stuck in traffic
Interesting points by some but you are preaching to the covered. The more I read CD it is like everyone patting each other on the back, You OK, yes I'm OK how about you? Yes I'm OK.
It is like you people keep reassuring each other because you know it is toilet time for the US even after 08 and are afraid to face it.
Looks like SMU is going to "host" this Bush librarness. (I guess, at least it won't take up much room.) You can go to the SMU homepage, www.smu.edu, where they are touting it. As a graduate of SMU Law School, (while it was still in the land of the living; i.e., not Dedman) the cognitive dissonance just doesn't stop.
Fat Lady has sung....it seems like that if you are new to CDs...but wait theres more!!! stick around long enough and you will discover diverse views...replete with HEATED divergences like a hot poker applied to the belly...
[wheres Jake Newton when you really need him]
The correct term for the SMU monument to moronity is "LIE/BURY".... its all the sunova bitch ever did- lie, and bury truth.

As far as I am concerned, W and the VP can take a hike to Bolivia for all I care. They have done so much damage with war and debt and lies that we will be repairing the damage for decades.
These people and others like them call themselves patriots. Patriots do not ruin their country to line the pockets of their rich friends. They do not get us further into a crushing debt that mortgages the future of coming generations.
