McCain Won't Rule Out Pre-Emptive War
Republican Sen. John McCain refused Wednesday to rule out a pre-emptive war against another country, although he said one would be very unlikely.
The likely Republican presidential nominee was asked Wednesday at a town-hall style meeting if he would reject "the Bush doctrine of pre-emptive war," a reference to Bush's decision to invade Iraq without it having attacked the United States.
"I don't think you could make a blanket statement about pre-emptive war, because obviously, it depends on the threat that the United States of America faces," McCain told his audience at Bridgewater Associates Inc., a global investment firm.
"If someone is about to launch a weapon that would devastate America, or have the capability to do so, obviously, you would have to act immediately in defense of this nation's national security interests."
McCain said he would consult more closely and more carefully "not with every member of Congress, but certainly the leaders of Congress."
The Iraq war was in the spotlight this week as Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander there, gave Congress a status report on the war. McCain argues for keeping troops in Iraq to capitalize on security gains, despite a recent outbreak of violence. His Democratic rivals, Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton argue for withdrawing troops.

Show Allpre-emptive war against america is terrorism.
pre-emptive war against any other nation is patriotic and justified.
maybe jeremiah wright IS right.
If there is anyone out there who thinks things can't get any worse, vote for Crazy Jack McCain. He's still being treated for PSTS and shouldn't even be in the Senate, or any other place of authority, for that matter.
Jr. Bush cooked his brain at Yale and McCrazy had his cooked in a Vietnamese "Think Tank."
God bless America and noplace else.
Hasn't the US put the world through enough shit? Oh joy! just what we need...another war monger.
Thank you nicholaswsnyder April 11th, 2008 9:34 am, for this list of McBush's vices.
This twisted soul does give one cause for very serious worry.
to nicholaswsnyder,
Thanks for this good list of facts about John McCain. Even though most here do not agree, I still say that one of the most important of these is #6. John McCain is quite wealthy and almost all of it (including, it's said, the money that helped him first get elected to Congress) came from marrying--the second time around-- a beer distributorship heiress and selling billions of beers in Arizona for 25 years thereafter.
If this background is the best American voters can choose for a "leader", we indeed deserve every bit of criticism we get from abroad about America being "in decline."
Special thanks to Moveon.org:
10 things you should know about John McCain (but probably don't):
1. John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has "evolved," yet he's continued to oppose key civil rights laws.1
2. According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain "will make Cheney look like Gandhi."2
3. His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban.3
4. McCain opposes a woman's right to choose. He said, "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned."4
5. The Children's Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children. He voted against the children's health care bill last year, then defended Bush's veto of the bill.5
6. He's one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a "second job" and skip their vacations.6
7. Many of McCain's fellow Republican senators say he's too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He's erratic. He's hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."7
8. McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates.8
9. McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his "spiritual guide," Rod Parsley, believes America's founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a "false religion." McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church "the Antichrist" and a "false cult."9
10. He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a 0—yes, zero—from the League of Conservation Voters last year.10
John McCain is not who the Washington press corps make him out to be. Please help get the word out—forward this email to your personal network. And if you want us to keep you posted on MoveOn's work to get the truth out about John McCain, sign up here:
Of course if some would-be attacker is about to launch a missile or other WMD, you do whatever you can to stop them. No sane president would do otherwise. I think the real question is, "Will you continue the policy of antagonization and unilateral aggression towards virtually every other nation in the world, Mr. McCain?" My own opinion is that he would continue the neo-con policy of flirting with the apocalypse.
I found this and find it too true to the times:
"When grief and pain turn to anger, when our rage is as useless as our tears, when those in power become blind, deaf and dumb in our presence, and the world's forgotten us, what then should we do? Must we put away anger, choke back our bitterness, and be patient, in the hope that justice will one day win? We have already been waiting 20 years. And when the government that is supposed to protect us manipulates the law against us, of what use then is the law? Must we still obey it, while our opponents twist it to whatever they please? It's no longer anger but despair that whispers, if the law is useless, does it matter if we go outside it? What else is left?"

Coulter's following is about as awful as she is...
Speaking of bizarre looking people...McCains wife leans that way as well...
I don't like McCain, and I'm either going to vote for Obama, or aginst him (for Hillary). But even with a buddy like Joe Lieberman, I don't think McCain would have invaded Iraq. He would not have allowed (or backed) all the pre-war phoney baloney abot WMD and Nigerian Uranium...
I hope he's been around DC long enough to realize (as did George Bush the elder) that the neocons are the lunatic fringe of the Republican party and should never be allowed in the oval office again.
How many months left? 9?
Coulter obviously didn't cut it in Warrior Princess school. Too skinny, no muscle, but she still wears the Celtic princess hair.
honortheBOR:
You needn't fear Coulter. She's (or he's) a bloviated shit fer brains who couldn't beat `her' way out of a Pillsbury flour bag.
Does anyone here know for a fact whether Coulter is an organic female or a transgendered one?
Maybe it's just me, but there's something weird/freaky/bizarre about `her' appearance.

I read your satirical comment & IROTFLMAO. Your descriptions of both McCain, [bloated Nesferatu, straight from the crypt, pasty white :) ] and Bush, [tiny brain, moral depth of a Texas woodtick :) ] are hilarious.
Unchained--I would like to ask Ann Coulter (Human Events) what Jesus would think about her "Christianity"--but I am afraid of her! She is mean, prejudiced, egotistical . . . hmm, are those the characteristics of Jesus. Maybe someone should send her the WWJD wrist band.
Hey Mike...
If you really want to get angry, go over to Human Events (Conservative site) and read some of Ann Colter's articles and post there...lol...whew...those people are ultimately the rudest people...and some of the dumbest people I have come across!!! Lots of koolaid over there!!
You know....a nation-wide protest/strike needs to happen...not just the few that hit the street and carry signs...I mean a real protest...like...no one go to work anywhere...stay home...write letters to Congress all day..
Shut the whole country down for a day.
I know....Americans won't do that...it is too inconvenient...and most are so passive they hardly notice what is happening except when they buy gas...then they mumble and complain, and drive on.
To add to the strike...turn off the TV...shut the media down, too...it is mostly propraganda anyway...
Time to make a big statement.
And there you go folks, a RANT of mine above.
It's not that the rant does not represent my view, for the rant does, but in exaggerated form. I can blast off in ways that make the above-posted rant seem like ... nothing. Seriously; I get angry.
But it's not how I should publicly communicate, for even when I re-read my post, above, then I wonder who made such a post (like who's that ass?). Ooops, that ass was me.
All I'm really expressing is anger, and we have right to be angry.
Good, since we agree about that, then what do we do next?!
I don't know what to make of the following, but it is interesting.
"Is the Hillary Clinton campaign being deliberately sunk?

There's some ODD, WEIRD history in all of that; very. But ...
I have to snip MOST of the original post; such comedy is understandable to me, but surely not for most people. We have to be of a special streets breed or else ... no understanding; and I'm not sure how much understanding there'd be on 'the streets', they're definitely not uniform. [Definitely] not.
No, I better snip, and en masse it was. I am not an ordinary citizen and should be more careful; just that when I allow myself to write fluidly, let's just accept that you do NOT want my words. They'd made the worst rappers sound like juniors (and I speak of experience, while they don't).
What's Engdahl saying though? If what he says is true, then it's of serious import. So what's the truth of this?
I'm NOT God, have NO omnscience, and so on. I need truthful information. I am tired of victimhood. I want corrective change!
I don't want any more people [pretending] they can tell us anything; I want [truth], no more pretenses! I can deal with 'truth' on my own, thanks!
It's all the other [shit] that fucks me up. Just give me 'truth'; blessed sister truth. Can't do that eh? Because you're a bunch of LIARS!
This death monger looks and smells like a cadaver. Just lock him up in a convalescent home if you want to keep the world safe. Then give him a paintball gun and let him shoot senior citizens for fun. He can pretend they are "gooks".
clubconnecter,
I must say that I would not shed a tear.
A preemptive strike against another country? Is that what I heard? Since when is that not justifiable? After all, our interests must precede those of others. Be it at the table of diplomacy or the point of a gun, we, above all, have to survive. We are THE CHOSEN ONES, god's kids, chosen to suck at the teats of WalMart, will certainly describe the destiny of the future. And what an awful destiny it might be. Let's have a nuclear strike on Iran and the rest of those that don't quite agree with the USA's notion of what's the way to live. Hooray Western Capitalism!!! If you can't make money legitimately, let's us start us a goddammned war, fer chrisake. What else are all us good fer nothin' white sons a bitches good for, any way. Canon fodder...is that what we're meant for? Keep them rich fuckers safe and alive and safe...right???
Well, when your oil's gone, and you're huddling in your MacMansions, burning your furniture to keep warm, try to recall why McCain and all the other vested interests wanted to keep our kids over there, fighting and dying for something that, at best, was an illusion anyway. Remember, it was all about the oil. And there is an end to oil. If you aren't willing to adopt this simple fact into your thinking, I hope you're not my neighbor when it happens.
Pinky McCain still thinks he was a good boy for carpet bombing and murdering innocent Vietnamese from several miles in the air. War hero my ass. He is an unrepentant two time war criminal. Lucky bastard never got what he deserved in Hanoi Hilton.

Moderation seems to be awaiting my comments over there.

VoxClamantis, nice post!
The neocons must have given McBush a pre-emptive frontal lobotomy.
OK, McCain officially says he'll have a nice war on his watch. There can be no doubt. Are you positive that Obama and Clinton will have wars? The last Clinton did not have war during his 8 years. Sure, there was Bosnia, but that hardly qualifies as a full scale, trillion dollar, hundreds of thousands dead war. The Dems say they are against war, and I know you don't believe them, but if there is even a doubt, you have to vote to save the lives.
Your vote makes the difference. War or no war.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that should McCain Become the next president of the USA, that there will be a devistating war\bombing of an innocent Iranian nation. Futher more this will cause the US to fall into a deep recession. Just wait for the current food riots to reach the shores of the US as the middle class starts to starve. Further more this will effect the rest of the world greatly as the price of oil will jump 500%. This is what the neocon's have wanted all along. Crash the US economy, so they can swoop in and buy the lot. Its happend before, a certain "Rothschild" managed to bankrupt the British economy is one short swoop in the 18th century. Its the same process be repeated again and again.

I think Paul is right.
Preemptive attacks can be legal if Article 51 of the UN Charter is adhered to.
Preventative war is illegal aggression and a crime against peace. It is what Japan did to the US in 1941.
It is what McCain believes in too:
"If someone is about to launch a weapon that would devastate America, or have the capability to do so, obviously, you would have to act immediately in defense of this nation's national security interests."

Not very long ago, Hillary and Obama were trying to out-war-hawk each other on who would launch missile strikes into a country like Pakistan if they had 'actionable intelligence.'"
Have they conveniently forgotten that America's intelligence is FLAWED, e.g. intelligence regarding Iraq having "WMD, a plan to attack the world's superpower" etc.
Since America has "flawed intelligence," it should never attack a country pre-emptively!
This is the guy 25% of Hillary supporters will vote for if Obama gets the nomination. And Obama and McCain are neck and neck in the polls. You know who wins the "close" elections. These are the elections that get stolen. And McCain has serious health issues, and he is talking Condi as his VP. Imagine Condi Rice in the White House, it is GWB's and Cheney's wet dream. Wake me up from this nightmare, or is it a comedy. Put on your tinfoil hat people, maybe it will help.
Pre-emptive war is defined as illegal state violence perpetrated on speculation of a threat, lacking an immediate verifiable threat. Mkkkain smears this distinction and creates ambiguity behind which his criminal cabal can later construct another decoy of good faith and perpetrate another rampage of bad faith. Mkkkain is parroting the Imperial Chimp, likely with cousel from Likud Lieberman and Curly Rove, and the Demok/Repuk war profiteers placing their chips accordingly.
Yes indeed, Unchained, "greed has made these guys

I think these idiots should consider preemptive diplomacy...and take dose of lithium to keep them calm...
As to the swearing in and taking an oath...if you are dillusional and a power grabber and war monger...you can imagine all kinds of enemies...and make it up as you go.
McCain imagined that we should have stayed in Vietnam for another 5 years and won that one...even though they were running us headlong OUT of the country, and overrunning the embassy...what part of that does he not get?
Corruption, money and corporate greed has made these guys
slip into the abyss of fantasy.
I am hoping that the sharply rising food prices will help return sanity and a respect for reality to the U.S. The reason McCain is the nominee is that, so far, people have not suffered severe enough personal consequences for their political foolishness, That will change as food riots come to the U.S.
How disheartening, though, after struggling and protesting through eight ridiculous and tragic Bush years, that we are now confronted by a near twin to Bush in stupidity and belligerence.
If McCain will not rule out pre-emptive war then he has no right to be POTUS.
Why? Because all treaties signed by the United States, according to the U.S. Constitution become, "The Supreme Law of the Land".
There are numerous treaties we have signed that would prevent us from using our military in a pre-emptive way.
If he wants the job of POTUS then that means he will have to swear to take an oath "To PRESERVE, PROTECT AND DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION AGAINST ALL ENEMIES BOTH FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC."
If he cannot take that oath in good faith, then he should hold a press conference tonight and announce that he is withdrawing his bid for the job.
Ditto for Clinton and Obama and any other comers for the job.
Agree? Disagree?
"I don't think you could make a blanket statement about pre-emptive war, because obviously, it depends on the threat that the United States of America faces," McCain told his audience at Bridgewater Associates Inc., a global investment firm."
It depends on the threat? Certainly, there must be dozens of threats which could be ruled out before the U.S. starts another pre-emptive war. Has John McCain learned nothing from this one?

Is he thinking of bombing Iran?
Should McCain be elected, will the Vietnamese be urged to apologize for torturing him?
McCain is just another dumb, power seeking "Yuck Yuck!" Don't expect any breaktrough thinking there! Like Bush, he's just another "Thumper" -- not a "Thinker!"
Preemptive war...thats what Hitler did against Poland, and kickstarted WW2.
Wil americans elect (?) a monster who promises to wage more wars for Israel?
'"I don't think you could make a blanket statement about pre-emptive war, because obviously, it depends on the threat that the United States of America faces," '
there was no threat before, nor was their by Poland toward Germany. But these can be manufactured!
Guess what, folks? Today McCain has taken over the lead in the polls. Apparently most people agree with him that killing in advance anyone who gets in our way is a good thing, along with corporate ownership of government, more tax breaks for the rich . . . Better get used to having the man around.
If the US economy is going to collapse within the next 4 1/2 years, which does not appear all that unlikely at this point, does it matter if the US president is a bit unhinged and supported by the most reckless and short-sighted elements of the corporate kleptocracy? Would that change the probability that the US would launch a nuclear war that would likely result in annihilation and possible human extinction? And if the probability of that does not matter, WTF does matter?

I guess having a beer heiress for wife was much better than the one who waited all those years for him while he was being the "imprisoned warrier".
The man lives in the past and I think his time spent as a POW warped his mind...
He should have beer and do extensive reading on what murder, torture, and corruption is...then come back and try again...oops...he is too old to keep coming back...
lobo gris,
My "point" about some evangelicals not being willing to vote for John McCain if they know he's a beer distributor (since you were so dense as to ask) is that those lost votes--however few or however many-- would help defeat McCain.
You and some others here who are so bent on not seeing any differences between Clinton, Obama and McCain, actually don't have points but rather are completely satisfied throwing up your hands and yelling "Who cares?" The government should just allow a fair and thorough investigation...done by someone other than their cronies and own admin..and let the chips fall where they may...
They shout about the conspirasy theorists...but their own evaluation was a conspirasy theory...
Conspirasy definition: a secret agreement between two or more people to perform an unlawful act
Theory definition: A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena
If you go by definitions...the gov's version is a conspiracy theory as well..
Investigate and let the chips fall where they may...unless the gov is afraid of exposing the truth. That would settle it all.
And Carl...
I think you are right about the grenades!!
Two blanket statements already exist: the UN Charter and Article 6 of the US Constitution. Between them it makes premptive war illegal -- in fact from the Nuremberg trials, it is the ultimate war crime. The only 'pre-emptive'war permitted is in case of imminent attack by a another nation, as when they are actively massing on your borders or in the process of launching an attack (not just have the capability -- which could be ANY other nation). We've been through already with the war crime of the invasion of Iraq. If McCain doesn't know this he is incompetent; if he does he is evil. I think he's both, and crazy to boot.
If you like Bush and the Iraq war you'll love McCain as president.

Gerson at the WaPo today was going on about what people want in a commander-in-chief. His postulate was that they want someone who is tough and willing to push the button at the slightest provocation. I submit that it would be much better to have someone who behaves like a mature, grownup rather than someone who picks a fight at the drop of a hat. McCain sure doesn't act very mature given the way he has prostituted himself in order to get the nomination and flipped on most of his previous positions in order to woo the radical right christianists. This business of solving every problem by sending in the Marines is just not what a serious human being is all about.

Personnally I agree with you, how others see it remains to be seen.
Lobo Gris
pre-emptive war is none other than an excuse or justification to attack another country based on trumped up or even outright false charges of its being a threat. It's aggression, pure and simple.
John McCain is clearly every bit as psychopathic as GWB, and only the ignorance and/or prejudice of the American people will get him elected. That being said, we cannot be responsible for what others choose to do, even if we must collectively suffer the consequences.
If I'm not mistaken, there's no practical difference on this between McCain, Hillary and Obama.
Not very long ago, Hillary and Obama were trying to out-war-hawk each other on who would launch missile strikes into a country like Pakistan if they had 'actionable intelligence.'
The semantics might be different, but I really don't see any difference between 'pre-emptive war' and direct military strikes into another sovereign nation depsite the objections of that sovereign nation's government.
Note also that Hillary at least voted to authorize the 'pre-emptive war' in Iraq. And, I guess the language has been changed since the Clinton days of 'humanitarian war', but to the people on the receiving end of our bombs and missiles, I doubt they'd be very concerned as to whether they are dying in a 'pre-emptive war' or a 'humanitarian war' or 'strikes based on actionable intelligence'.
Face it, both parties agree on this. Only the mavericks in the parties like Kucinich, Paul or Gravel object. And on the Novemeber ballot, you are going to have to vote for a third party or independent candidate like McKinney or Nader if you don't want to vote for more of the same.

"2) An argument could be made that the election of McCain as leader of the "west" will further inflame the radical Muslim world against America as their "Great Satan." Us electing alcohol people to lead will be seen by many practicing Muslims (who do not drink alcohol) as proof positive that America is totally evil and must be destroyed.
Why would we want to give those folks a whole new talking angle from which to recruit terrorists? (When we could just as easily elect Obama and skip the alcohol downside with all the Muslims with whom we share this planet.)"

Revelationist believe there will be an attempt to set up a "world religion"...government approved and required...I guess Hagee will be running it...thats his endgame...
Matthew 7:15,16 - Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits....
Speaking of Hagee....I wonder how he handles the anti-Christian views in Israel...
If "proselytizing is persecution", why does the Jewish state spend a lot of their taxpayers' money (and it includes taxes collected from Christians, too) to proselytise and convert the Christians into Jewish faith? There is an official state program to convert 200,000 Russian Christians in Israel into the faith of "Jews against Jesus". The program is headed by a government official, and is quite active.
You all should be more careful how you describe our next president!
We'd best study up in Orwellian terminology to describe the views of the world and country we will see.
I just cannot wait to see what chaos and violence John Hagee will encourage aginst all non-Christians in his role of Secretary of Religion.
Pre-Emptive war is such a sound philosophy. It's the same as pre-emptive arrest from law enforcement. Just Taser and beat somebody because they MIGHT commit a crime. How about Pre-Emptive traffic control where they write you out a ticket because you just MIGHT speed. How about Pre-Emptive masectomy - the doctors just remove your breasts because they MIGHT get a tumor one day.
People that think like this should get some Pre-Emptive birth control so they don't accidentally reproduce and further pollute the gene pool.
America's fascist right-wing leaders simply LOVE war and sending others to battle; however, they don't go and neither do their children.
Why else do you think they name everything a "war?"
"Cold War," "War on Poverty," "War on Drugs," "War on Terrorism," "War on Marijuana," "War on Sex," War on Science," http://memepunks.blogspot.com/2006/06/americas-war-on-science.html Bush's War on America, http://www.commondreams.org/views05/1102-22.htm etc., etc.
John McInsane is itching to start a war with Iran, ANOTHER country that is NO threat.
:(
Based on their criteria for justifying pre-emptive war, if the gang of pirates now running the US (that includes W and MCClone) had been in charge during the Soviet era (1945-1989), they would have attacked the Soviet Union and the human species would now be extinct, and surviving species would be adapting to the post nuclear planet.
jcrumb,
I have been saying that for months...but it will be a miracle if this doesn't happen BEFORE the elections...leaving the current "fearmongering" leader in place forever... until death do us part.
Preemptive war is nothing short of preemptive takeover of another government...it is plan A...plan B...and plan C....if all else fails and they make fools of themselves and get caught...plan D might...might... be considered...that would be diplomacy and reason.
Of COURSE McBUSH is interested in ANYTHING that furthers the Authoritarian agenda on a global scale..OF COURSE HE IS!
The man is a...YES MAN, an ASS KISSER, a HAND LICKER...and like most dogs..HE HAS HIS TONGUE SO FAR UP THE ASS OF CORPORATE AMERICA AND THE ARMS AND DEATH INDUSTRY, THAT HE CAN TASTE THEIR $50 CIGARS..
McBUSH is FOUR MORE YEARS FOR FOUR MORE YEARS...etc...ad nauseum..
They will have to STEAL FIVE MILLION VOTES THIS TIME, TO GET HIM IN..AND IT IS QUITE POSSIBLE. WITH THE ARMS INDUSTRY, THE INTELLIGENCE "COMMUNITY" (recall "ex cia" employees delivering "absentee ballots" by the BOX LOAD to Florida Elections officials in rural Florida..) so with all of this, and new secrecy procedures so that we will NEVER KNOW how it went down...YUP! He will most likely be our next 'President' and that my friends...is the end of our democracy..period!
If McBUSH is "elected" be prepared for the eventual Fox News "Breaking News" bulletin.."McAIN SUSPENDS CONSTITUTION, NATIONAL EMERGENCY MARTIAL LAW IS IN EFFECT..." AND THEN THEY GO OFF THE AIR..OR ACTUALLY MOST LIKELY BEGIN 24 HOUR PROPAGANDA OF AN INSANELY OBVIOUS TYPE, DOING EVERYTHING TO PLACATE THE MASSES INTO JUST 'ACCEPTING' THE "NEW RULES" WHILE BLACKWATER THUG-RUNTS ROAM THE STREETS LOOTING AND RAPING AND MURDERING..
AND YOU WILL PAY FOR IT ALL..
GET READY FOLKS..IT'S COMIN'

War to protect the US...the economy....the rich and powerful...
They declared war on the American people long ago and it went unnoticed...they just need to finish things off now and enslave the people, destroy the Constitution, declare martial law, and file people into the 600 camps for "re-education ie accept it or die.
While they run wars all over place and overtake and set up puppet governments, they are quietly...or not so quietly running a cold war here and winning.
McCain is no different...he is dangerous.
To save the article, try emailing to yourself...you can put it on wordpad and save it forever!!!
The doddering dunderhead McCain says he'd consult "not with every member" of Congress before starting a war, but with "the leaders"....Isn't that what Congress is for? Then again, ARE there any leaders in Congress? Is anyone in doubt now that McCain would be More Bush?
BTW, the American concept of preemptive war was forged by The Pilgrims in 1623 (two years after concluding their phony peace among New England tribes); when, after long refusals to listen to Native American complaints about Plimoth's behaviors (which The Pilgrims assumed were plots: didn't speak the language), Guvnah Bradford and the holy elders sent "Captain Shrimp" Myles Standish and other men to ambush the Native leaders, inviting them to a feast and then killing them with their own knives. It killed Plimoth's economic hopes for years (to say the least), until an Englishman who knew how to listen came to town, Thomas Morton of Mrrymount---the country's first poet in English and, of course, its first "criminal exile." http://ancientgreece-earlyamerica.com
There are many good reasons to defeat John McCain, but maybe not (yet) enough sound strategies to do so. Being "shocked" about the idea of pre-emptive war is not among them, by the way, since most of the many current and former Bush supporters already do embrace this idea positively. (Maybe not so many "in public", but a whole bunch more in the secrecy of the voting booth.)
Here, once again, though, is a little-talked-about detail on McCain that should very well be in the arsenal used to defeat him. He and his wife, Cindy, have gotten wealthy on her large inherited beer distributorship, Hensley & Company, in Phoenix. This has gone on for all the 25 years he has been in Congress and continues to this day. It has power to sway a few voters away for two reasons:
1) Some evangelical conservatives WILL NOT vote for a first family that has facilitated on a large scale the social problems of alcoholism, drunk driving, domestic abuse and underage drinking----IF THEY KNOW ABOUT (which most of them still don't.)
2) An argument could be made that the election of McCain as leader of the "west" will further inflame the radical Muslim world against America as their "Great Satan." Us electing alcohol people to lead will be seen by many practicing Muslims (who do not drink alcohol) as proof positive that America is totally evil and must be destroyed.
Why would we want to give those folks a whole new talking angle from which to recruit terrorists? (When we could just as easily elect Obama and skip the alcohol downside with all the Muslims with whom we share this planet.)
It is hard for anyone as superstitious as I am to look at a picture of John McCain and not see a bloated Nosferatu, a preview of the next stage of America's dementia. Bush's madness was at least understandable madness: a tiny brain, the moral depth of a Texas wood tick, a nature disposed to become the stooge of acquisitive masters. We've met people like Bush, making asses of themselves at fraternity parties, throwing up in roadhouse parking lots. But McCain is straight from the crypt, pasty white like you get after laying in a box of native earth in the basement of some Transylvanian castle, and black eyes that pop open when the sun has gone out of sight. I don't understand him at all. Like Gollum he probably went mad after months of torture turned him into the homicidal, lopsided troll who today proposes himself as leader and spokesman for a nation of rudderless zombies. Something awful lies barely hidden inside John McCain, waiting for America to make one final stupid choice, itching to drag us the rest of the way into bedlam.
McCain looks nutty. It shows right in his eyes. The war-mongering kool-aide drinker just doesnt get it.
America does not want a war with Iran-or any other country for that matter. This nation is war weary.
We-as a people-are sick and tired of crazy political conservatives rattling their sabers/penises at every country out there. McCain needs a hobby!
Parsing Republican rhetoric about "war" is a waste of time. It's extremely simple:
The guy with the biggest gun makes the rules. We are that guy.
We reserve the right to attack anyone at any time to preserve the stability of the US economy specifically as it relates to the accumulation of wealth by those that already possess it.
That's it. Everything else is hypothetical nonsense.
If Iran wants to bomb Washington pre-emptively, it needs to have biggest gun status first.
Nothing about this has anything to do with the law, unless one refers to the law of the jungle. The big gorilla, the big dog, does as he pleases.
But, in this case, we don't just attack willy-nilly for sadistic pleasure. It's all tied to bombing the risk out of the economy. National security is the security of the potential for economic gain for those that don't need it.
How is this news?

Is anyone for Premptive Peace?
McCain keeps the fear factor alive, the main ingredient of fascist control of the masses: "it depends on the threat that the United States of America faces."
Yes, of course, with its more than 725 military bases set on foreign soil all over the planet, its stockpile of thousands of nuclear warheads ready to be fired off at a moment's notice, its nuclear submarines patrolling every ocean of the world, its warplanes and satellites circling the globe, the United States of America faces many threats!!!
When are folks finally going to see through this bullshit ideological talk of a theat to a military capable of blowing up the solar system?
By the rules of "preemptive war", Iran has the right to kill McCain along with any innocent associates or family members who happen to be around. Very sophisticated thinking.
Some techy nerd with computer smarts please help me understand how I can lift the great illustration off this story on the home page (and regrettably not used in the story--boo, hiss!)and save it. I have Windows xp operating system.
I wonder if Hitler and Nazi Germany called their aggressive wars that they were tried and convicted of war crimes for, PREEMPTIVE WARS. That is an euphemism for PREVENTIVE WARS.McCain like most of the U.S.crime family is just another CORPORATE SOLDIER and when he says " it depends on the the threat the U.S. faces" he means the threat to wealth and power of the corporate and banking elite.
