Bush's Chamber of Horrors
As the governor of Texas, George W. Bush was the king of the death house and now, as president, he's the king of the torture chamber as well. A matched set. So add another weighty clunker to the president's leaden legacy.
Bush was a happy executioner. He presided over 152 executions, a modern record for governors. He rejected clemency pleas from prisoners who were plainly retarded, about whose guilt there were serious doubts, for whom mitigating circumstances had been casually dismissed and whose lawyers had been inept to the point of clownishness.
Most notoriously, he signed off on the execution of Karla Faye Tucker, whose plea for a commutation to life imprisonment had drawn international support, including from Pope John Paul II. Bush, who has claimed wonders for his own religious conversion, dismissed hers indifferently and privately mocked her appeal for clemency as if it was a sour joke.
Now, building on that humane foundation, Bush has vetoed legislation that would have barred the CIA from using "harsh" interrogation methods. "Harsh" is a euphemism for torture, including waterboarding, the near-drowning which has been recognized as torture ever since its popularity with the Inquisition and which, until Bush, had been prosecuted in this country as the crime it obviously is.
The legislation would have held the CIA to interrogation methods approved in the U.S. Army field manual. Vetoing that move, Bush places our country outside international law, in effect discarding our treaty commitments under the Geneva Conventions.
Bush rejected the FBI's testimony that torture is unnecessary and often counterproductive and ignored the warning from Gen. David Petraeus that waterboarding and -- here comes another euphemism -- other interrogation "enchancements" put American POWs at heightened risk.
Announcing his veto, the president snubbed the firm stand against torture taken by the man he had embraced just hours earlier as his favored successor, Sen. John McCain.
Bush claims torture has prevented numerous terrorist attacks, but the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia, says he has never heard of such an instance.
With this veto, Bush makes it clear that, beyond just scrambling to justify past lapses into torture after the fact, he emphatically wants torture to be cemented as national policy. Doing so, he adds a lurid extrusion to his astonishing claim that presidents, as commanders in chief, are beyond any control by Congress.
To champion torture, Bush has revolted allies and estranged them, thus compromising our options for their cooperation in intelligence, and he has ceded the high ground to moral claimants whose crowed indignation is often sly and tendentious but corrosive to our interests even so.
And most crucially, he has betrayed this country and its best values. We've never claimed to be perfect, but neither, up until now, have we ever claimed a right to be evil.

Show Allthis boy bush grew up watching his dad and his cia pals train torturers, enable all kind of assassinations and wickedness upon the common people, and boy bush wanted to top them all.
and he did.
How can 59,054,087 people be so DUMB?
- UK Daily Mirror front cover, Nov 4 2004.
Bush isn't going to top daddy's record until he nukes Iran; I think that's the only thing the boy 'knows'... Since congress won't stop monkey boy, let's hope there is a god with a sense of humour - Imagine the laughter when the nukes fail to launch, or all fall as duds.
If he was eligible for re-election we would fucking do it again!
I know I shouldn't say this and have never uttered these on CD before...But I simply hate this little bastard Bu$h and all he stands for, including his puny, make-believe miserable god he cowers to and winces before...
At least he is on record. Just play the video when his vicious vile ass lands in the Hague.
Since he was selected not elected does that mean he can serve another term?
May he one day wish that he had championed clemency for the mentally handicapped on death row.
Suppose Uncle Dick "Pacemaker" Cheney was to be nabbed on his trip to the Mideast. And his captors strapped him down on top of a large microwave.
If his interrogator held a finger on the "defrost" button, would it be torture?
What say you, Georgie?
A true sociopath. Others have commented that he smirks and makes light of the death and destruction of others, including all those troops he demands the public respect while their benefits are quietly reduced in back room deals.
What pisses me off most is that the moniker "compassionate conservative" was actually applied to this monster, and that the church goers (of the big right wing mega churches) still countenance some semblance of their concept of God or God's will/chosen in this merciless, intellectually lacking mad man.
I posted a few days ago that I believe he and Cheney are such sick f--ks, that when they look at history, they are in awe of those dictators and military "leaders" who have the largest number of KILLS (number of persons decimated under their reign) after their names. I actually think these bastards see themselves emblazoned historically in direct proportion to the number of human beings their fallacious claim to power allows them to EXTERMINATE.
They are nazis... and the makings of a twisted mockery are at play in that they are hiding this time behind the Jews who are aligned with similar policies of aggression in Israel.
This is where Mars rules and the vast damage and deficit to Venus (law of love, concept of balance, basis for negotiation, champion of the arts, realizer of the greater good for the whole of society) has gotten us. Bombs can only take life away, Mars can neither make, fix nor replenish it. HIS way is a theivery of all things wise, Divine and sacred. And he is in charge thanks to who's in the US White House. And the Supreme Court should be tried for treason for letting this disease loose on not just America and Iraq, but many other nations as well. Even if the US had a policy of arming unstable lands prior, it's been stepped up at the VERY time mankind has all the evidence it needs to know (and do) better.
Author sez: "Announcing his veto, the president snubbed the firm stand against torture taken by the man he had embraced just hours earlier as his favored successor, Sen. John McCain."
Huh?
McCain voted against the bill before it even got to Bush's veto pen. His opposition to torture has gone the way of his integrity.
We should not question Bush when he claims that torture has prevented many terrorist attacks. He is in a position to know. Each time he thirsts for a new terrorist attack, a new bombing of innocents in Iraq or elsewhere, Condi sits him down to watch Abu Ghraib tapes and he pleasures himself and his urge to kill melts away. And he is trying to warn us that if he does not get new material soon, e.g. tapes showing naked prisoners suffering the most horrific and deliciously exciting abuse, he will be committing a great many more terrorist attacks. So, you see, the torture is necessary to prevent them.
Goebbels is correct.
Now that the neocon mouthpieces (Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh...) have vehemently accused McCain of not being conservative enough, McCain will spend every waking hour between now and November proving that he is more of an ultra right neocon than any of the other ultra right neocons.
> his astonishing claim that presidents,..., are beyond any control by Congress.
I heard Alito was involved in creating the "unitary executive" theory.
Bush's last 2 AGs believe US citizens don't have a habeas corpus right that the President has to respect. So not so astonishing he thinks that way. What is astonishing is that we haven't impeached him.
> McCain voted against the bill before it even got to Bush's veto pen.
Truthfully I have not read the bill. As a floor, I think the prohibitions are a place to start. But I'm not so sure I'd support being limited to just 19 techniques either. How long would it take to legalize a 20th technique?
Sorry, but until we admit that we are all participants in the evil of the men who "run" the country today, and until we can unify in action based on principles of behavior as expressed in the US Bill of Rights, and The Universal Declaration of Human Rights declared by the UN in 1948, such evil allowed by the silent "innocence" of the citizenry, will continue to emerge and scourge us all, including the true "homeland,"--not a separate nation as propagandized by evil rhetoric--but the very planet that has made life possible; not yet glorious, or ghoulish, for that is in our hands, the hands of the human.
Karla Faye and the Gods must be laughing their heads off.
Check it out: Bush can extend his fascist rule through the Directive 51 he signed into effect (and Congress just stood stupidly by and allowed, as usual),
"which specifies the procedures for continuity of the federal government in the event of a "catastrophic emergency." Such an emergency is construed as "any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Directive_51
Why do you think he's pushing for a show-down with Iran?
He'll find some reason... some "catastrophic event" is bound to be arranged, or lied about- we know he's good for that- to extend his presidency. I mean, that directive pretty much gives us glimpse of that scary future, doesn't it?
This directive wasn't even discussed at all in the media. That was pretty big news, completely kept away from mainstream America.
Congress could IMPEACH NOW, before he pulls this crap- why don't they?
I agree with freefood, Congress should impeach now and save the world from mass casualites that would occur during an Iranian War. Even if many of the dems and repugs get exposed by cheney for their whoring, etc.
The truth is worse than that. Dozens of people, many of them innocent, have been tortured to death by US officials. That's murder, pure and simple. Bush has violated the rights of thousands of detainees by denying due process, and ordered kidnapping and forced disappearances. He has violated the constitutional rights of literally millions of Americans by unlawfully intercepting their private communications and records. If ever there were a case for impeachment, if the Nuremburg trials were anything other than the "victor's justice" their critics claimed, if the Constitution and laws of the United States were good for anything other than sopping up innocent blood, Bush and his co-conspirators would be impeached, removed, tried, convicted and incarcerated for life.
In the fall of 2007 Hillary Clinton changed from believing torture interrogation should be legal for presidents to her current position that it should always be illegal. But see one of Hillary Clinton's closest advisors and likely to wield considerable influence in a Clinton administration--if that were to happen--talk about how torture interrogations by state operatives should still happen when necessary ... illegally. The close advisor is Bill Clinton. Watch him laugh a bit too much as he discusses how torture works much better when government operatives do it illegally rather than legally. Watch how in his listing of the negatives about torture it does not occur to him to mention that it is simply wrong--for in fact he doesn't think it is always wrong. Watch him argue that the government gets better results from torturing when it is done by government operatives illegally rather than legally. Does Senator Clinton agree or disagree with the views of this close advisor? See this video and ask yourself if this reassures you about Senator Clinton's judgment in advisors, and how meaningful it is that Senator Clinton now calls for torture to be illegal.

This looks a lot like Cheney pushing for a war with Iran in order to keep the impeachment hounds at bay. Bush has to say waterboarding isn't torture because he's already authorized it's use. Were he to not veto it now he would be admitting that his previous authorization of it was an illegal act, making him a target for impeachment.
This message is for all the right wing religious neo-cons that support Bush.
Jesus was forced to carry his cross, then was nailed to it, and died from crucifiction torture.
"The method had no symbolic significance; its purpose was just to provide a slow painful and public death. The victim had nails driven through his wrist, not the palms since nails through the palms cannot support the weight of the body. The legs of the crucified were often broken, to make the victim die sooner. Usually the majority of the crucified ones died of dehydration and fatigue, not of the blood loss or the injuries. Crucifixion was a gruesome, painful and slow death, and the victim might live for days before he finally died. This form of execution was abolished by law in 315 AD by the emperor Constantine and replaced by hanging.
You can not be a Christian and support any person or President that supports torture of any kind.
Need I say anything more?
Real Blame for Iraq Disaster & Other Bush Disasters
Blame Bush if you like, but its the moron voters who helped him steal two elections that bear most blame. They have more blood on their hands more than this inept zealot, who abuses are by no means limited to this ill conceived war. Don't forget the five Supreme court justices who betrayed their oath by placing politics ahead of honor by planting him in office; nor many of our legislators who have betrayed our trust by tolerating these unprecedented abuses.

Iraq: US military says it killed child
bornfreeman,
i applaud your thesis. however, there was no reason for Jesus to actually die from either a whipping,or the use of a crown of thorns. Similarly the mere act of being nailed to a cross should not be fatal.
And you should bear in mind that physical suffering and lasting mental anguish (according to the US administration) are entirely acceptable.
Any blame or prosecution should fall solely on the foot soldier who actually speared jesus while on the cross - (unfortunately their will always be a few bad apples).
Of course if they'd sent the whole thing to Gonzales instead of Pilate, we'd never had had all this fuss in the first place.
Robert Settgast__ I agree with your premise that the voters are primamily to blame for the destruction of our country and much of the rest of the world. Many voters were intelligent people that did not use their brains, but were fooled by side issues created to confuse people and get them in the fold.
Bush, on the other hand , does not even realize what he has done as he has no thought or empathy for anyone and has no idea he will go down in history as one of the worst leaders in recent history. He thinks he will have a great legacy to show off in his Presidential library which should be the size of a teepee and contain instruments of torture to commemorate his eight wonderful years of going back to the Dark Ages.
"We've never claimed to be perfect, but neither, up until now, have we ever claimed a right to be evil."
REALLY? HAVE YOU EVER READ US HISTORY? EVER HEARD OF MANIFEST DESTINY? EVER HEARD OF NATIVE AMERICANS?
THE USA HAS ALWAYS BEEN EVIL INCARNATE

Uh-uh, sebouhian. Leave me and others like me out of your 'we'. I opposed it all and protested it all from the start.
Let's keep in mind, too, that the main reason for Bush to push for the legalization of torture is so that he won't be held responsible for war crimes after (or, if) he leaves office.
Robert Settgast: Hello. Any ideas? It is easy to cast blame; their is just so much to spread around , from the media, to the Supreme Court, to the Satanic Administration and mostly to Greedy American Consumer's WILL NOT TO KNOW.
I mean you are right...but any ideas how we might effect the process positively?
Thanks, mike peters-not far from you.
I wish there were impeachment hounds to keep at bay.
I was always puzzled by how the nation that produced Goethe and Beethoven could allow a maniac like Adolf Hitler to take over. Now I am eye-witnessing the answer.
If jclientelle wants to understand why the puzzle still is, and the real story behind Germany's plunge, I can point you to where to look.
The answer is a waking nightmare of extraordinary proportions, that has only recently been revealed.
Germany's operatic fall clearly does mimic our own, and the underlying reasons can be discovered quite easily, as one of the few brilliant Polish scientists who witnessed the trajectory of evil - have now been published.
It is the science of Ponerology (evil), and this delineates the methods of psychopaths' social takeover through collusion, manipulation, and fierce control.
From a recent post
MiMicCS -- Please read the links. We need to understand the missing piece that ties it all together. We really really need people as yourself to paint the BIG PICTURE and raise the torch high so that others can see for themselves
From another thread:
Alex Nosal -- the way to get it back is not clear, but certainly advancing our understanding of how they seized control is important to fighting back. The odds are ~ 4:1 in our favor, based on estimated numbers, but the plan is to adjust that ratio very soon. The true depth of evil is beyond normal pessimistic and ranting crazies ability to conceive of.
One almost needs to be a very experienced mental health professional to wade through the material, but believe you me, it will be worth knowing! This is about cutting edge psychology that has been suppressed, by you can guess who

Beside individuals cleansing themselves, we need to get the balance of free thinkers to realize how the psychopaths do it.
You will be shocked, and then it starts to make sense, in a twisted disgusting manner. The reason so much of America is drop dead dumbfounded is a gradual co-opting of our innate competitive culture (over a 100 yr arc) into shivers down the spine immoral acts (condoned by majority).
Essentially they've re-made America in their own images, and made it necessary for most to act psychotically to keep their heads above the water.

I've just finished the web version of a similar book:
Political Ponerology: A Science on The Nature of Evil adjusted for Political Purposes by Andrew M. Lobaczewski with commentary and additional quoted material by Laura Knight-Jadczyk
This is ALL about the formal study of evil, was initially killed for
US distbn by Mr. Zbigniew Brzezinski in a very cunning way, but the
author re-wrote the whole document.
The psychopathically flawed Polish Communist structure and
mechanisms of Stalin provided the raw material for this important work

A very excellent web site is stocked with much of the crucial material, for free, including excerpts from Hare's research and

As to those who would corrupt the Constitution...advocate torture...promote corrupt activities...deny accountability of the "elected leaders"....
Our leadership took an oath to protect the Constitution and represent the people....they feed us lies and garbage and order us to follow and believe what they deem is the truth...
Wake up, America....the Bible warns of such people(who would try to turn these words on the "ememy" People, we are sleeping with the internal enemy...and the nightmare is descending on us. The oaths have been broken.
