Whistleblowing Website Vows to Defy Court Gag
An international website that claims to blow the whistle on corporate and governmental fraud vowed yesterday to defy attempts by a US court to close it down. Wikileaks allows whistleblowers to anonymously post documents in an attempt to expose corruption and wrongdoing. Its owners said yesterday that a Californian judge had ordered that the site be taken offline last week, after an injunction from a Swiss bank.
The bank, Julius Baer, sought the injunction to prevent claims being posted online that it was involved in money laundering and tax evasion in the Cayman Islands. It has indicated that the information was prejudicial to an ongoing court case.
Last night, the version of the site hosted in the US remained unavailable, but duplicate sites hosted in India and Belgium were still accessible.
Information on the Wikileaks site led to a front-page Guardian story in August 2007, exposing money laundering in Kenya by former president Daniel Arap Moi, and in November the site published a confidential briefing memo from Northern Rock that was picked up by the Guardian, the Financial Times and the BBC.
The site published hundreds of pages of information from a former bank employee about the offshore activity of Julius Baer. Several documents allegedly relate to money laundering claims. The bank could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Last week a Californian district court judge, Jeffrey White, accepted the bank's injunction without amendment and also ordered Dynadot, the site's domain registry, to delete all record of the address from the central internet domain registry. Wikileaks' founders said the US court's move breached the first amendment.

Show AllThe tests in China for internet censorship must be complete..the Neo-Berlin Olympics should be interesting, complete lack of privacy for email, searches etc..or will the Chinese "allow" Westerners to believe that they are NOT being watched...This is the beginning of "Push-Button Democracy" where ONE individual, company, Judge etc..can simply OBLITERATE, with the push of a button, or the ordering of the pushing OF that button..can remove information from existance..at least that is their goal..geewhiz..I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE "CASHLESS SOCIETY" just think, how great will that be..Cindy Sheehan...say goodby to your assets..Opps! and then months or years of dealing with some monsterous corporate Fascist bureaucracy to get your assets back...but in the meantime..so much for flying to Texas to protest...right..
Your taxes are paying the sallery of the judges responsible for this kind of Corporate Fascist legal hair splitting...stop paying for the dismantling of your own rights..
How quickly would they actually listen to us if say, 100 million of you just STOPPED PAYING...you are paying for the illegal wiretaps, the illegal torture, the illegal war..and on and on..it's TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION...TAKE ACTION..THE ONLY POWER WE HAVE LEFT IS THE POWER OF THE PURSE..DENY THEM THE FUNDS..CUT OFF THE HEAD AND THE BODY WILL DIE..
FIGHT THE OPPRESSOR!
What a shame, those nasty and pesky little facts are so damaging to the continued illusion of truth and justice pervading our banking/drug/industrial cartel.
I'm prejudged to believe that the facts will stand on their own, if given a chance to be made public, while the lies need to be interpreted in light of their suspected complicity in the crime.
I see it as SIMPLE JUSTICE, and telling the truth against the wishes of the very perpetrators themselves, is hardly a crime itself.

here are TWO cases of internet censorship...this one and Inner City Press, elsewhere on today's CommonDreams site, which is monitoring the UN. now the Brave New World of e-censorship begins. obviously, someone is scared of something, ie the Truth, being spread electronically.
Wikileaks needs to keep RUNNING. The Masses support WIKILEAKS. It's the only way we can hold the corporate fascious dictators accountable for their actions. They need to be EXPOSED. The truth needs to be revilled
Where can I send money????
Here is my file on wikileaks .

It will show you some reasons that they grew ever more afraid of its function.
Many sites - Daily Kos - will give you some real clues about what to do or just follow the links embedded in the first part of that file I've given you.
I got SO frightened; the same day this announcement was made my blogger blog started shutting down people's computers! It even happened to a friend of mine in Australia. My Site meter went down and I thought the entire internet was toast. I really did have a panic attack - I've just started posting my article about Infragard and what to do about it as all this happened!!
Wikileaks has mirrors in other places; and the ptb be damned, it will not be brought down by court order!!
You can still access the site here:
www.wikileaks.be
Also, since the court order people have copied the entire site and uploaded its contents to multiple filesharing networks. This type of censorship is not acceptable and is being resisted. All Wikileaks has to do is register its name with another company to get back online. The "site" itself actually hasn't changed, just the address that points to it. It is akin to AT&T taking your phone number away because you made some "innapropriate" phone calls.

Yeah, and also, there is a problem with relying on ONE site to do all of the whistleblowing, leaking and anti-censorship work. I encourage everyone to find web hosting from a company (better yet, set up a server in your basement, there are plenty of people who can help you do this for cheap) and host your own websites for this purpose. Copy files from Wikileaks and other websites. For data security needs multiple redundant backups of these types of materials. Try this site also:

This is a fascinating site.

Go to the "Whistleblower" item. Nifty info on helping you be "safe" and "secure" on the web and with your e-mails.
Another judge in the US standing for the firm principle that the right to launder money and evade taxes trumps the Bill of Rights.
As others have noted, Wikileaks has not "gone away," just their domain name has.
You can still reach them via their IP address: http://88.80.13.160
Since I run a web server, I have offered to provide name service for them.
This can be turned an instance where the very nature of the Internet can serve as graffiti & stealthily posted handbills did in Nazi-occupied Europe, a contrary message to the "official" propaganda coming out from the collaborationist press (substitute them now into the corporate media). Just as those brave pamphleteers did a valuable service, so does Wikileaks. It is time to teach the Zurich bankers that their money and lawyers can not plug leaks of their malfeasance in the Cayman Islands. Instead, this should blow up in their face in the form of something they loath, public attention. Remember, public attention is not good business for a private bank.

"Despite the ruling, Wikileaks continues to host the sensitive documents from servers located outside the U.S. Coincidentally, or not, the organization's hosting center in Sweden was also struck by a denial-of-service attack, after which a fire erupted in the center as well."
Resistance is beautiful.. viva Wikileaks in all it's forms.
