Final Disgrace for Bush & Co.
New intelligence report a devastating, humiliating blow to U.S. president and his neocons
"Merry Christmas, Mr. President," hissed the men in cloaks as they plunged a dagger into George Bush's back.
America's spooks finally had their revenge. After being forced by the White House in 2002-03 to concoct a farrago of lies about Iraq, and then take the blame for the ensuing fiasco there, the 16 U.S. intelligence agencies struck back this week.
U.S. intelligence chief Mike McConnell made public a bombshell National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) report that concluded "with high confidence" Tehran had halted its rudimentary nuclear weapons program in 2003.
If restarted, Iran is unlikely to produce any weapons before 2015.
The new NIE is a devastating, humiliating blow to Bush, Dick Cheney and the neocons who have been fulminating for war against Iran. Only two months ago, Bush warned Americans that Iran's secret nuclear program threatened to ignite World War III.
A 2005 NIE report that billed Iran as a major nuclear threat was based on fabricated evidence supplied to the CIA, just like the bogus Niger uranium story used to justify war against Iraq. Who, one wonders, is behind this disinformation?
Bush was given the new NIE on Iran last August. But for the past four months, Bush, Cheney and Condoleezza Rice have been beating the war drums over Iran when their own massed intelligence agencies have been telling them there was no danger from that country. The White House hid its own intelligence community's findings from the public until the spooks threatened to leak the report.
AHMADINEJAD TRUTHFUL
Ironically, Iran's leader, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was telling the truth all along when he said Iran was not working on nuclear arms, while Bush & Company were lying through their teeth, just as they have over Iraq and Afghanistan.
This column has been reporting for two years the growing opposition at the CIA, the Pentagon, and the State Department to Bush/Cheney's plans to launch a war against Iran. I repeatedly heard the term "fifth column" used to describe the fanatical neocon ideologues pressing America into a second Mideast war.
Now, America's national security community is telling the White House to cease and desist before it drags the nation into another foreign catastrophe. While not a coup as in "Seven Days in May," it was the next closest thing.
At the heart of this drama lies the disturbing fact that Bush/Cheney & Co. were simply ignoring their own $40-billion-plus-a-year intelligence community.
TRY ANOTHER SOURCE
When the White House didn't get the answers it wanted on Iran, it turned to Israel, whose renowned intelligence agency, Mossad, became a primary source. Mossad still insists Iran will have a nuclear bomb by 2008.
Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak declared the NIE report a "blow to the groin." Israel has been straining every sinew to get the U.S. to destroy Iran's growing nuclear infrastructure. Whether Israel, which has a large nuclear arsenal, will attack Iran on its own is uncertain.
This is the final disgrace for Bush & Cheney. Their war propaganda and efforts to suppress the new NIE should constitute grounds for immediate impeachment.
If Bill Clinton could be impeached for lying about oral sex, shouldn't Bush and Cheney face trial for attempting to lie and deceive Americans into yet another war of aggression? Alas, Congress, many of whose members also have been howling for war against Iran, lacks the guts for such action.
CONFIRMED
America's intelligence has been lousy in the past, and might be wrong again. But UN nuclear inspectors confirm the U.S. findings.
So does SVR, Russia's intelligence agency. Iran's civilian nuclear power program eventually could produce highly enriched uranium for weapons, but there is no sign of Iran developing any long-range delivery capability.
The NIE is likely to release Iran from U.S.-imposed isolation, and undermine the anti-Iran coalition the U.S. was assembling.
It should put the kibosh on Bush's idiotic plans for an anti-missile system in Poland and the Czech Republic. Sanity is slowly returning to Washington.

Show AllJohn Dean states that Dems do not take any action and in fact continue to vote for the war because they dont want to be accused of being wussies. This is simply a cover, an excuse. We are presented the illusion of two parties.
Both profit. All are implicated now with few exceptions.
Some"investigations" are announced but nothing ever happens.
Since Downing Street, the stolen elections, Plamegate, torture, many impeachable criminal actions were supposedly "investigated" but nothing ever comes of it.
Repubs ignore public opinion with impunity. But Dems worry about being called unpatriotic? Not. Greed is contagious. Dems looked around and decided to go for the FULL GOBBLE.
Dcbeltway, that blog disappeard since we commented on it.
KEM agreed if the writer wants us to take actions he should provide a list of how to take action instead of bashing all of us that blog.
tumbleweed Iranians are not Arabs they are Persian. However, there is a small Arab minority in Iran amongst other minorities such as Kurds and Azeris. Had to correct you on that as most Americans don't bother to learn the difference. I remember back in 2001 most people thought Afghans were Arabs also.
It never ceases to amaze me, to read a blog where the writer condems others for blogging at sites like this, instead of doing something productive. ___ I ask, why are they blogging too, instead of not being out in the streets having a fit as they suggest we should all be doing?
If they come back with, "I am doing such and such", why do they assume, we all are not doing such and such? If we all stopped blogging here at this site, we would not be aware of many problems and learn from one another. Does that all make any sense to any but me?
Sure shows there aint no intelligence in Washington, and thats the disgrace
The planned attack on Iran is all about religious nutters running the US and an American Congress in the pocket of Israeli rightwingers. Bush-ordered US Navy strike forces still lurk near Iran; maybe the crazies will engineer some sort of engagement with the Iranians, a la Gulf of Tonkin, in order to jump-start a war now that the nuclear weapons canard has been exposed as crap. War may be closer than we think. Whose kids are going to die for Israel's 'security', how many Iranians, how many Americans? Americans, stop shopping till you drop, stop eating until you pop your pants; wake up!
To follow up willybill's comment. Check out the article below on the former Italian President's comments on 9/11 being an inside job. Scary as hell, and makes you think it could happen again to consolidate power.

Canuckchuck; The United States is the Fourth Reich, and as five million or so Germans lost their lives for the most corrupt, sadistic, type of government in world history, Americans will probably suffer the same fate. Hubris has interesting results.
Ignorance is not bliss. It is very costly.
Bonnie said, "It's really a sad state of affairs when a crazy man like Ahmadinejad is the one telling the truth and the President of the United States is bald-faced liar."
1) Ahmadinejad is not crazy. By Bush's standard, he's a sage.
2) Bush is not the lone liar. All the presidents of the United States have lied. From Bush to I-didn't-have-sex-with-that-womanizer to Nixon, to Reagan, et al. Read People's History of the United States by Mr zin.
---------------------------
If we all know or agree that Bush was using the nukuler issue as an excuse, why then should NIE's report change Bush's planned attack, except to delay the timing of it?
DRAGONSLAYER December 10th, 2007 5:27 am ..."NONE OF WHICH HAD THE SLIGHTEST CLUE AS TO WHEN AND WHERE AL QAEDA WOULD STRIKE IN 2001???? ....I would respectfully ask you to do a bit of research and re-work or eliminate that particular question. Believe me, they knew more...much more than we will ever know. An easy resource would be Michael Ruppert's, "Crossing the Rubicon". He's likely in hiding in fear of his life, but the facts are still there.
I think that it is way to optomistic to believe that this administration will alter any plans for an Iran attack. To see the extent of the main stream medias complicity in this all one needs to do is ask why John Bolton has been all over the TV screens all week on all of the talk shows. Why else would the neocons' idiot in chief be allowed such a platform? He has only been wrong with every word that has come out of his mouth for six years now, so why the platform for this cowardly little shit-for brains?
The people in Washington are willing to start another war in the Arab world but they can't find the guts to impeach Bush??????? What is wrong with this picture folks????? I doubt a lot of neocon's know anymore! They have so indoctrinated with hate from the 'fringe lunatics' right wing media machine they can no longer think for themselves. It looks like an old replay of the infamous movie when Hitler swallowed all of Europe. Before people manage to wake up and realize the menace he was. I could never understand until here recently how one man could so blind a nation that they overlooked atrocities and never questioned what he did. But, I throughly understand now. I see the same thing happening in the good old USA!
Some folks, easily ignored, think that the NIE possess superior juju to Bush's messages from God and his gut feelings, which are calling for war.. Foolish dumbkopfs! Gut feelings trump all evidence in this mad king's domain. Read my latest tome: Voodoo militarism in America.
while agreeing with most comments here, i need to note that
a) the whitehouse/neocon efforts have so far been very successful from their point of view. they sought to disrupt the mid-east in order to jack oil prices. controlling oil is not just about getting it here, but limiting its distribution to others and preventing a very successful arab state from moving out of the american arena.
b) they sought to subjugate the constitution and the bill of rights. this they, too, have been very successful at acheiving. we are a hair's breathe away from martial law being declared and whatever remnants of free speech being declared illegal. in case you missed it, the new radicalization and terrorism act that the house passed with a landslide vote gives bush & co the right to declare anything and anyone fair game for accusations of terrorism or thoughts thereof. this means that the internet that we fight for free access to so dearly, can be declared an instrument of terrorism and we can be shut up and shut down. this bill gives them the opportunity to an end run around our legislative controls that have been fought over these past 3 yrs so vociferously. clever bastards they are.
c) i am tired of hearing how the american public voted in george bush. we did not vote him in. 2000 and 2004 were blatantly stolen elections, often referred to as a bloodless coup. people should speak truth to power at all levels.
d) people are relying on the internet with little blogs or comment sections like this to vent. we need to get out on the street and talk with people. organizing, face to face, is infinitely more powerful to reach large numbers of people with facts and counter arguments. obama has acheived a major coup in this election by hooking up with oprah. and look at the attacks he is facing for doing so. but it is okay for other candidates to link arms with white celebrities to sell their wares. in this racist society, i have to salute obama for the courage to do that.
in summary, i say we need to stop making apologies for the broken system; we need to strip our message of niceties and speak with strong clarity--the way we want politicians to speak; we need to fight for clean elections to get grassroots people in the leadership mix and remove corporate economic power to buy elections.
Too bad these "unbalanced" gunmen are wasting their ammunition & energy taking out innocent bystanders.....
DO the the jihadists seem to have more focus?
Altruistic and dedicated Federal Bureaucrats, in the tradition of Archibald Cox, William Ruckelshaus and Elliot Richardson, have saved America, probably for the last time, from the self serving arrogance, laziness, stupidity and rage of her citizens.
75 million American children are growing up in the shadows of three times that many American adults blind, by choice, to the consequences of the self centered existences they choose for themselves and everyone else.
All you out there who are against warmongers, I know that NIE report has made you as happy as it has made the warmongers mad. It feels so good to see the lying liars exposed. Merry Xmas.
HAS ANYONE ASKED THE QUESTION, WHY IS A NATION THAT'S OVER NINE TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT AND PISSING AWAY A MILLION DOLLARS A MINUTE FUNDING SIXTEEN "INTELLIGENCE" AGENCIES, NONE OF WHICH HAD THE SLIGHTEST CLUE AS TO WHEN AND WHERE AL QAEDA WOULD STRIKE IN 2001????
Eric your optimism is not justified by the past 7+ years of Bushco. When facts contradict them they just ignore the facts and make up their own "facts". The lapdog media just plays along. I wonder when Michael Gordon (the worthless hack!)will start doing alarmist stories on how imminent the Iranian nuclear threat is in the NYT.
As long as this criminal adminstration is in office nobody is safe from their insanity. What is really depressing is to look at the crop of nobodies auditioning to succeed them in 08.
starofthesea:
The Democrats, the MSM, and ten percent of the population who are waiting for Jesus' return, are all that Bush have left.
The support of the MSM, and compliant Democrats, gives the "appearance" that Bush he has more support than he actually does.
Ramsay
STAR OF THE SEA -- You ask "Maybe they outed her because she would have reported that there was no program going on in Iran, and thus removing their cause for war. I wonder……"
Sorry, per her interview on Bill Maher's show, her ideas were exactly the opposite, she believed she'd find WMD.
This makes the outing even more evil, IMHO, as she was one of the faithful party line thinkers, until the stab in the back, to punish her husband.

« There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed »
Ramsay-----Watch out for the Dems----you are so right. They have done nothing BUT sell us out. I am more depressed by their conduct than I am about the criminal in chief. But perhaps we should all be grateful in a sense. Things have become both CLEAR and POLARIZED. There is no more looking to any Party in Washington to do the right thing. We, the people, are who we have been waiting for.... and whether we will answer the call, only time will tell.
I am still waiting for the MSM to even mention the irony of these criminals outing Valerie Plame when she was working on setting up a network to monitor the development of WMD's in the ME.
Maybe they outed her because she would have reported that there was no program going on in Iran, and thus removing their cause for war. I wonder......
For all of Bush's yak-yak about he had to get the professionals' analyses of the NIE's "preliminary" information before the report was made public: Bush could have saved a lot of time and effort if he instructed all those intelligence wonks simply to call Mr. ElBaraidi of the INIA to find out what was going on.
We can be optimistic or pessimistic, whichever is our style, but in the end, Whatever will be, will be. That doesn`t mean we should not work to save our country, but unforseen events many times are responsible for future happenings. The 9-11 catastrophy turned most of America into zombies depending on our great saviour in the White House for security, so who knows what event might give them back their senses and start them thinking rationally again? The only question is, how big a jolt do people need before they realize our former great country has been highjacked by crooks, liars, and terrorists, and is bound for destruction on the present course.
With as much news time spent on Paris Hilton and such maybe it is a rouge nation.
Bu$h the inferior is now and has always been a disgrace. Until he is dead there will be one disgrace after another. He also appears to be completely immoral and has no shame. I don't think Bu$h the inferior can recognize personal disgrace in himself. He will probably try to maintain that others just didn't understand his genius and that he did what was necessary not popular because he had a superior understanding of the world.
Unfortunately too many people will be to polite to laugh.
It's really a sad state of affairs when a crazy man like Ahmadinejad is the one telling the truth and the President of the United States is bald-faced liar.
Nothing humiliates the neocons, because they are utterly shameless. They lie and don't flinch when caught out, engage in corruption and war profiteering in the knowledge that the lapdog Congress and lickspittle Supreme Court will never hold them accountable, and violate human rights in the belief that might makes right. Sanity is not returning to Washington because, expressions of dissent notwithstanding, since they are still free to carry out their vile, violent and tyrranical agenda untroubled by conscience or consequences.
There is no sanity in Washington and it doesn't seem there will be for many years to come.
How many more lies are waiting under the table to be discovered?
As for Israel, for them to launch an attack on Iran would be suicide for Israel.
'Sanity is slowly returning to Washington'? We have lived through the period of greatest material wealth that humans have ever known or will know again. As the vise tightens and we are squeezed between the jaws of peak oil and global climate change, rationality will be severly tested in Washington and in other capitols of the world. And what is rational? Iran has our lifeblood without which we cannot survive as a nation because all of our wealth and continuity depends on sustained supplies of cheap energy. This is not a matter of choosing a Prius over an SUV. As oil becomes more coveted by other nations and more difficult for the U.S.A. to obtain in sufficient quantities it will be a matter of life and death for the nation as we know it. Will the U.S.A. be able to rationally agree with other nations that four per-cent of the worlds people should have only four per-cent of the worlds wealth? When that wealth is growing increasingly less each year? Can our government rationally concede an eighty per-cent reduction or more in our 'quality of life'? And would the people of the U.S.A. rationally agree that all the peoples of the earth are created equal with an equal right to an equal share of the world's wealth? We shall see how rational the people of the U.S.A. are. We shall see very soon.
D-Day 6 Jun 44 came at an optimum window for weather/moon phase/maximum daylight/high tide.
From what I can glean, technology shapes the supposed Iran attack window this time. Winter months' maximum darkness for our superior night-time capabilities, moon phase again, and before the centrifuges are en masse charged with UF6 so as to minimize the dirty post-bombardment debris.
Ramsey Mameesh, your first paragraph's time lines are less than comforting.
This is just one more in an endless litany of lies and corruption exposed about this mis-administration, and will have no more effect than a flea on an elephant's ass.
No, the populace is depressed and discouraged, the DemoRat "opposition" is spineless and in collusion, and these cretins will cause as much destruction and mischief as possible until they are out of power. That is inevitable. But how and when? Electing a Hillary is no guarantee, since little prince george is just a figurehead, and the regime can certainly continue with a new puppet in place.
Still, the timing of the NIE places a restraint on another war of aggresion. Just don't confuse that with a change in direction.
final disgrace? you wish. for our crafty pres, it turns out to be no disgerace at all. he somehow, in his own inimitable language, concluded that the report that Iran is not working on nuclear weapons is another good reason to attack. don't ask me to try to explain it. maybe you could ask nancy pelosi. i'm sure she'll unerstand.
When have the facts ever gotten in Bush's way? When has the truth ever caused him to reconsider anything?
This story isn't over until 1/20/09. Until then, anything can happen.
This is what happens when Darth Vicious isn't prowling the dank dungons of Spook Central like he did during the runup. A truthful NIE slips out.
The Final Disgrace would be the overthrow of constitutional rule in this country which Bush, Cheney and their SA and SS neocon allies clearly want. These criminals still hold power for another 13 months. Let's hope that the saner elements of the government, who have been hiding under the same bed where the terrorists have supposedly also been hiding, will stifle, if not handcuff, the bloody and strutting gangsters of the George Wanker Bush regime. We need some luck.
Yes, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was telling the truth. Guess who else told the truth? Saddam Hussein. All along he swore he had no WMDs, that he had gotten rid of them early on, and we knew it. We couldn't find a single thing. But liars don't believe people who tell the truth. Their reasoning is that If I'm lying, and I'm a nice guy, then Saddam and Mahmoud, who are bad guys, couldn't be telling the truth. Shit, maybe the white trash in the white house knew they were telling the truth, so they had to be killed because of it. Mahmoud best be very careful for the next year or so.
I share Eric's optimism. In my scenario, an attack on Iran, was to occur late December or early January. The NIE release shelves, that scenario, coming too close to the release and raising suspicion. It is my belief, and it is openly shared by others, that a similar mutiny by the military last year prevented an earlier planned attack.
The "Iranians are involved in attacking U.S. soldiers in Iraq" ploy was tried earlier this summer without sparking any interest. Nobody is buying it - even if it is true in some cases. The Mahdi Army has been reigned in for precisely this reason - to avoid any provocation.
That really only leaves the Israeli Option as a possibility. And it is an open question for everyone. Would an Israeli strike, and an Iranian counter missile strike, be enough to drag the U.S. into war with Iran? You can bet, that the question is being asked, in Tel Aviv, Wahshington D.C., and Tehran. And that Congress is being quietly polled, to find out their votes, in such an event.
It ain't over yet, but this NIE report sticks a candle into an otherwise very dark tunnel, and gives me hope that we may avoid Georgies 3rd World War and Normies 4th World War.
And we have Cindy Sheehan, our fellow Common Dreams poster, to thank for this NIE report. It was her courage and bravery, two and a half very long years ago, that turned the tide on Bush/Cheney. She was the first to show that the paper emperor could be successfuly challenged. She opened the door for everyone else.
Just watch out for the Democrats. They could still sell us out, like thy did Cindy, and our nation before and since.
Peace,
Ramsay
When Bush/Cheney are gone, other corporate bought politicians will take their place.
He's overly optimistic because he forgets that one way or the other (mostly, the other) we still want control of all the world's oil.
I agree with RichM that Margolis is way too optimistic.
Canuckchuck.
Well spoken - that is all that needs to be said.
Period.
All this other talk is just that - talk. . .
I used to think that the leadership (Bush and crew) of this country (USA) weren't necessarily representative of most Americans.
That we, as a people, were not like that.
Wrong.
I used to think that when you really came down to it, Americans were just a bit 'off of their game', and that when the going got bad, as it has been for the last number of years, people would wake up and realize what is going on.
THEN, we would see some changes take place . . .
Now, I am with you. I would even go as far as to say, "Americans suck" I think we need a good kick in the ass that is still yet to come. Hopefully it wont bring us to our knees completely (that might suck for me).
F the American leadership,
F the American people, we/they collectively could give a rats ass what is going on in relation to our stance in the world.
We have a ROGUE ADMINISTRATION bent on dominating the world and the American people could give a shit less, if anything, they are complicit by their(our) ignorance.
Yes, I too am SOOOO Disgusted by it.
STOP THE MADMEN (America)!!!
canuckchuck...Homeland..Fatherland...not much diffrence, eh? Problem is, who's out there to stop this REGIME? Certainly not We the People...too busy, it's Christmas..too busy, it's New Years...too busy, Easter is coming....uh..knock knock!! Yes?...Papier bitte!...Papier bitte!
canuckchick, I assume you mean rogue nation, although it is rouge with blood.
I agree that Margolis is dreaming here...of the right thing that should happen in response to the many crimes of Bush and Co.
I think this administration is protected by the MSM and all the coercive, blackmailing it can come up with to insulate itself from what the People really want their Democracy to be. Their agenda, PNAC, is all they care about.
Maybe we need some added intelligence agencies, 16 seems to be a little weak for the greatest and most powerful nation on Earth. And only 40 billion a year for intelligence? I understand we spend half a million every single minute, 24/7, on the 'police action' in Iraq. Forty billon is just a few truck loads of hundred dollar bills, __ a pittance. We can get a lot of money by taking back bonuses from wounded vets and delaying income tax refunds. (which BTW has been announced will happen in 2008.)
Wonder when Iran will launch an attack on one of our ships? That could happen at any time, ___ an act of war.
the USA is a criminal rouge nation that must be stopped, like 1940's Germany, before it takes over the world.
'right on' Spike!
hang in public
Don't bet the farm that Bush gives a tinker's dam about truth, or is embarrassed by disgrace... or that he will be deterred by reality.
He is far more dismayed by his current lack of approbation by Ehud and AIPAC (and covetous for the Zionist ambition) than he is motivated by any considerations of patria, self-respect, manliness, truth, honor, or justice.
He wouldn't make a pimple on Putin's (or Mahmoud's, for that matter) posterior.
And Parliamentarian Pelosi and her coterie have already assumed leading roles in the epithet of P. J. O'Rourke's 1991 book...
Don't rest easy. There are many months to be traversed before we part with this malignant moron and his court.
And sacerdotal prophet John Hagee -along with his acolytes- is still hoping for a conflagration and looking for the "rapture".
The proverbial woodshed lies ahead for Uh-Mur-e-Ka. Too late to wake up, methinks...
Oh we still have a year to go--lots of "final" disgraces to look forward to. The real fun is guessing what they will be. With Bush co the sky's the limit.
The magic word to end these wars of aggression is,of course, the draft. This would bring these wars to an instant screeching halt. With no exemptions. The Bush twins and Miss Chelsea Clinton first in line and any sons, daughters,or grandchildren of Senators or congressman next. They would all rush to agree on this. They have sacrificed nothing for this war.
With the current sorry state of US Intelligence sources, and the compliant nature of mainstream journalism, it is with more than tongue-in-cheek that we might suggest simply deferring to the international press for reliable information. Journalistic sources around the world provided impressively accurate info prior to the onset of the Iraq Attack (let's not call it a 'war' because a pre-emptive strike against a defenseless country with less than 1% of America's military budget would more aptly be designated an announced ambush). And now they have been telling us that Iran is not doing the nuclear bomb thing.
Who's right time after time? Certainly not the American admin, or intelligence, or media...When will Americans who value freedom, democracy and truth rise up against this belligerent band of vicious, greedy scoundrels?
"Final disgrace" - pretty optimistic. Transparent doesn't describe Bush's reign. It'll probably take years for things to bubble up to the light of day.
"...kibosh on... plans for anti-missile"
This seems pretty unsupported too. There isn't a way of targeting warheads vs ballon decoys. That didn't stop them from implementing a non-working system. The belief appears to be that something that costs a lot and doesn't work is better then nothing that costs, well, nothing. Therefore it is imperative to install it everywhere.
Seeing how Democrats are being found complicit in supporting torture, DC's sanity will likely remain on a very long holiday even after Bush is gone from office.
Well, Eric you had me until the end when you write
"The NIE is likely to release Iran from U.S.-imposed isolation, and undermine the anti-Iran coalition the U.S. was assembling.
It should put the kibosh on Bush's idiotic plans for an anti-missile system in Poland and the Czech Republic. Sanity is slowly returning to Washington."
The NIE is not at all likely to release Iran from any sanctions any more than when Russia removed Nukes from Cuban soil ended us sanctions against that country. The anti-missle system is making lots of money for the defence industry, hence it won't be stopped either. Generals in the military like the idea of taking the highground -always have, always will - what's higher than to deploy arms in orbit? Unless you deploy spaceships that can destroy other spaceships...
Et tu, NIE?..than fall bush!.....If only it was so....No such chance. He most likely wears a Kevlar full body suit...you know..as much as he's adored and loved by all Americans. This will not stop bush/Cheney. If their mothers were in Iran, they will still bomb the crap out of it.
Margolis' assessment is far too optimistic. First of all, the NIE contained within it a huge loophole, which the Bush gangsters have already leapt to embrace: the assertion (unproven & not corroborated by the IAEA) that Iran had some sort of nuke program which was supposedly "halted" in 2003. If played properly, this loophole can still be used as an excuse for US belligerence, despite the fact that the rest of the NIE was indeed humiliating for the Busheviks.
Second of all, even without the loophole, the Bush gangsters (with the complete complicity of the Democrats) would simply find some other way to engineer this war that they so desperately want. There will either be some provocation involving Israel, or some staged incident which will "prove" that Iran is "trying to kill Americans," in Iraq or someplace else. This manufactured pretext will still become an excuse for an attack, regardless of the NIE.
"Final" disgrace??? I wish it were so...
There is no sanity in Wahsington, only greed and avarice. Logrolling is the order of the day and theft and corruption are the accepted norm.
It would be good if the Praetors were to remove the corrupt at once. Those whose addiction to murder has caused the deaths of so many good people need to be imprisoned right now.
I have just happened upon this thread, have read all 38 or so posts and agree with each and everyone of them. I love you all, brothers and sisters in spirit.
But consider my plight: I firmly counted on the maniac-in-chief to break some porcelain in Iran and with the aid of the credit crunch at home bring the world economy to a screetching halt. Consequently I got out of the stock market expecting to make a killing when I got back in after the big crash.
The stupid NIE report has now made it a tad, if only just a tad, less likely for my business associate in the Whitehouse to wreck the world economy which I count on. My hopes now rest on the ever-reliable state of Israel when it comes to stirring up trouble in the middle east to keep my business plans viable.
There is just no honour amoung rogues (or is it rouges?) any more. You can't even count on Dubya to do us all in anymore! Take solace, though, it wouldn't be for lack of desire.
KLAUS. After the big crash, you had better hope you have converted some of the cash you had into precious metals. Then hope you have a couple of years supply of dried food, a good tent and arctic sleeping bags, lots of candles, a solar stove, some defense weapons, some aspirin an emergency medical aid book etc. Because when the big crash comes this time, it will be anarchy all across America. After a few months most of the gangs will be killed off from starvation and fighting amongst themselves and it may be safe to do some food searching and building up stocks for the next winter.___ I am quite serious BTW.
Dear KEM,
I survived the battle field that was eastern Germany in the bitterly cold winter of 1945 as an eight-year old. My younger brother starved to death, my 36-year old mother tried to jump overboard into the icy Baltic Sea because she had lost her sanity, I crawled under a bed to pick up bread rinds which a "rich" kid had dropped. You cannot even imagine the horrors and deprivation I have lived through. What could touch me at age 70?
But that is not the point. The point is that your stupid people elected W in the first place (although only by fraud, but it was close enough for fraud to make the difference), and then your imbecile nation reelected him, albeit with the aid of fraud again. But I am very happy about his reelection, because it has given him a chance to cement his place in infamy.
You know what would give me the biggest laugh? If W would declare a war emergency for which he has already laid the legal groundwork and reign you happily ever after.
I will stay out of the stock market until that sucker is gone for good.
