18 Peacemakers Busted at Giuliani and Hillary Offices and No Original Reporting From The Register
Eighteen peace activists were arrested in Des Moines, Iowa Thursday for trespassing inside the campaign offices of presidential candidates Rudy Giuliani and Hillary Clinton, according to the Associated Press.
Both the New York Times and the Huffington Post picked up the AP story. The protest is the top story this morning over at the KCCI Channel 8 homepage, and their video coverage last night and this morning was exceptional.
The Des Moines Register ran the AP story Friday morning, but was apparently too busy for any original reporting about a major protest in their own backyard.
The Des Moines Register should fix that today by doing some original reporting in time for the weekend edition. Kathy Kelly, a 2-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee, and several others are scheduled to be arraigned in Polk County this morning.
Those arrested Thursday at Giuliani’s campaign office are:
Nick Kinkel, 19, Des Moines, Iowa
Mickey Davis, 16, Waukee, Iowa
Joy First, 53, Madison, Wisconsin
Jeff Leys, 43, Chicago, Illinois
Dan Pearson, 26, Chicago, Illinois
Suzanne Sheridan, 31, Chicago, Illinois
Ed Bloomer, 60, Des Moines, Iowa
Ron Durham, 26, Chicago, Illinois
Kathy Kelly, 54, Chicago, Illinois
Elton Davis, 45, Des Moines, Iowa
Those arrested at Hillary’s office Thursday are:
Renee Espeland, 46, Des Moines, Iowa
Robert Braam, 51, Manhaton, Illinois
Chrissy Kirchoefer, 30, Marseilles, Illinois
David Goodner, 26, Iowa City, Iowa
Mona Shaw, 56, Des Moines, Iowa
Chris Guant, 51, Grinnell, Iowa
Brian Terrell, 51, Maloy, Iowa
Farah Mokhtareizadeh, 24, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

A Cd idea …. block the newspapers trucks from leaving early in the morning.
Honorable and patriotic Americans is what these people are. Nothing less than more and more actions like these around the country are necessary. Americans have to stop being “good Germans” and fulfill their Constitutional duties. The IRON HEEL of Bush and CO. is also tramping on us here at home.

Who’s next? Let’s map all the anti-corporate government critics?
Maybe this is why the Bushcos contracted with Halliburton for the “illegal immigrant detention centers.
I guess the next step is to declare all Muslims “enemy combatants”.
That’ll show’em.
Des Moines is run by insurance companies. Imagine a claims adjuster writing for the Register and you’ll have an idea of what kind of paper it is.
Our media has inundated us the past few days with the demonstrations in Pakistan, how their Democracy is being suppressed against their constitution, and how wrong that is for their citizens and the relationship with the United States. This instance of the Register apparently choosing to suppress reporting of protests is yet another instance of repression of our Constitutional freedoms. Suppression of protests, arrests, literally dragging the protesters off to jail is commonplace in this country the last few years, yet the media - when it does report - usually supports the oppressers, not the protesters. And if a supposed protester does appear near an event, they are prohibited from access. I am in no way showing approval of the Pakistani governments action BUT I would like to hear a logical, really honest, appraisal of why the condemnation of Pakistani actions, yet the apparent approval and the much less publicized similar actions against our Constitution by our citizens is deemed acceptable.

Is this statement born of reader-experience? Do/did you subscribe?
Though I only know the Des Moines Register because of their RAGBRAI, I only assume that you are correct because most media outlets now, including the formerly quite good Public Radio and BBC, are nothing more than corporate mouthpieces.
My parents, who live in Iowa, cancelled their subscription to the Register because it is too liberal.
How about blocking all service persons from entering the private properties of war profiteers? Don’t allow the gardeners, nannies, housekeepers, painters, etc. from providing their services to these people. They need to know that there is a connection between them and the “common folk” who perform their daily necessary tasks. Who will wash their dishes, empty their trash, cultivate their gardens, care for their children? Those performing those services may be inconvenienced, but their support of the war profiteers is complicit in their conducting those war-making activities. This may be a crazy idea, but if it is not considered, it leaves a void in the possibilities of changing the direction of this country. We Are One. All are connected and interdependent.

An age spread in a sit-in of from 16 to 60. How heartening that people in three generations can get together.
St John,
It’s more then alright to afflict the comfortable, but it is unreasonable to leave the burden of doing so to those who can least afford it.
Why not ask the accountants and lawyers and other professionals to picket their homes and offices - or simply refuse to any longer do business with them.
Many of those you think should join the demonstrations probably take the bus to work and are overworked and underpaid as it is!
If they dont get those demands…well, just vote for Dennis Kucinich.
The Des Moines Register is NOT “liberal.” It is NOT “conservative.” It is lukewarm pablum with about as much backbone as over-boiled noodles. And about as slimey. Neither hot nor cold, it shall be spat out… Come to think of it, that’s about what they do: spit and run. Like a nylon.
I thank these people.
The politicians in Washington best be forewarned. American citizens are taking to the streets in record numbers!
People have had it with this current administration! It is not going to be business as usual. The protests are growing bigger every day! People in the US are angry! America is up on its feet and marching; and they are headed straight for Washington!
American peacemakers should converge in Iowa for presidential occupation project
