Pete, Nancy, George and WWIII
“You don’t have money to fund the war or children. But you’re going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president’s amusement.”
-Pete Stark (D-Ca)
“While Members of Congress are passionate about their views what Congressman Stark said during the debate was inappropriate.”
-Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, (D-Ca)
“But this — we got a leader in Iran who has announced that he wants to destroy Israel. So I’ve told people that if you’re interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from have (sic) the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon.”
-George Bush, War Criminal
I cheered inside my head when I heard Rep. Stark unbelievably utter his words condemning the murderous acts of BushCo on the House floor, and I was impressed with his candor, compassion and what I consider an appropriate amount of rage and honesty. How many of us were not thinking the same thing about the S-CHIP votes? I knew, however, that it would not be long until Pete Stark had to apologize. It happened today.
I believe that Speaker Pelosi’s comments about Rep. Stark were utterly inappropriate and out of line. I believe that when she said that impeachment was “off the table,” her remarks were not only inappropriate but also antithetical to our Constitution and directly in opposition to why the people of this country put Democrats back in power.
We may remind the Speaker of some of the things George has said: He told us that Saddam was able to reach the Eastern part of the US with drones that contained either chemical or biological weapons; that the smoking gun might come in the form of a “mushroom cloud” and that Saddam was also seeking significant amounts of “yellow cake uranium.” George and his co-criminals also told us over and over again that 9-11 was the justification for an attack on Iraq because Saddam had something to do with 9-11.
It is imperative that Ms. Pelosi be a true leader and lead the charge to impeach the liars, or at least get the hell out of the way so they can be impeached. I buried my son for no logical, moral or truthful reason for God’s sake, and she has neither the integrity or fortitude to finally say that BushCo has to be stopped before George is the instigator for Armageddon.
Ms. Pelosi is not the only one who condemned Rep. Stark; she joined hands (again) with Republicans to do so. However, for the Republicans to say that Congressman Stark’s comment demeaned “the troops” is so patently ridiculous, it is stunningly pathetic. Our troops and their much higher paid cousins, the mercenary killers, are killing innocent Iraqis. IT IS A WAR! What do these morally bankrupt Chickenhawks think occurs in war? It would be better for everyone if “the troops” went over to play pinochle with the Iraqis, but occupied peoples have an inherent hatred of their occupiers and want them to leave their country: dead or alive. Congress wants to hide behind “the troops” by giving BushCo billions more dollars to wage the occupation so their lobbyist buddies and campaign contributors can become richer off of the flesh and blood of those same troops that they claim to support.
BushCo has over 14 more months to sew their demented seeds of destruction all over the planet. We must all join Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Oh) in his call to remove them from office not only for their past, but for their future, illegal wars of aggression, possibly even doing the unthinkable: using a nuclear weapon. The terrorists that wear Brooks Brothers and Armani and live and work in the big white house on Pennsylvania Avenue are more dangerous to our way of life and safety than any others.
I wish Congressman Stark had not caved to the establishment elitists. George is the one that needs to apologize to each and every one of us for killing just about everything that we hold dear: our treasury, our Constitution, our standing in the international community, our ecology, our children, and for murdering our hopes and dreams for the future.
When I replace Nancy Pelosi as the Representative from California’s 8th district, I will fight for the lives, security and prosperity of not only my constituents, but for all the human beings in the world. If BushCo is still in office, God forbid, when I am sworn in, I will do everything in my power to hold them accountable for their crimes against humanity and I will never, ever apologize for telling the truth.

YEAH, NO DOUBT SOMEONE GOT TO MR. STARK FOR TELLING THE TRUTH AND WOULDN’T IT BE INTERESTING TO KNOW WHAT WAS SAID TO HIM BEHIND CLOSED DOORS!
Pelosi belongs in jail. Just as the disgusting Democrats joined with Republicans to condemn MoveOn for telling the truth about Petraeus — despite MoveOn’s being an important part of the Dem Party base — in this latest incident, Pelosi came out publicly to condemn Stark, one of the few remaining decent Democrats.
I don’t think Stark’s exact word choice last week (“…. get their heads blown off for the president’s amusement”) was particularly wise. But at least, his priorities were generally right. He was expressing something that merited expression.
But if HE is to apologize, how many more times should monsters like Bush & Cheney apologize? Yet Pelosi publicly condemns Stark, without acknowledging the truth of his position. She once again defends Bush, pretending that he deserves respect, and giving him a free pass on all his crimes — which are vastly worse than anything Stark did.
A party led by the likes of Pelosi is corrupted beyond redemption. She is a traitor to her oath of office, & to the constituents who elected her.
I’ll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours
Cindy,
Another reason you have to defeat Pelosi. I have found her to be more disappointing than virtually any politician I can think of (I pretty much expected all of Bush’s and Cheney’s crimes and other shenanigans, so I cannot say I was disappointed in them or any of their fellow travelers). You are an inspiration.

WE ARE LOSING OUR COUNTRY is no longer hyperbole - it is fact. Preaching to and consoling each other will end in our defeat, and our children’s.
I have personally pledged to approach a new person everyday and discuss / initiate conversation about the war. I always use facts / articles / numbers to begin with - not attitudes or emotions. Once a friend, colleague or relative responds to the fact - then I discuss corollary concerns - EXPLAINING HOW THIS MORAL DISASTER EVOLVED, AND FOLLOWING BY EXPLAINING THE PROBABLE CONSEQUENCES IF WE DO NOT ACT.
Most importantly - I talk to high school students and young adults at every opportunity - they are the ones we must enlist in our struggle.
Bless you Cindy, and all other peace-loving, courageous and ethical people who are trying so desperately to literally save our country.
Pete Stark misspoke. What he meant to say was:
“But you’re going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the vice-president’s amusement.”
The Constitution says “SHALL be impeached,” not: “if some congress-person feels it might be politically expedient.” One thing might be learned from our long dark night of the Bushies, and now from Pelosi: Our Constitution and laws do not protect us; those in power must be imbued with the spirit of our Constitutional system and dedicated to upholding it, as they (still) pledge when taking office. They must be patriots. Instead, we have self-serving con-men, and women, who take care of business first, and have lost sight of America–they could look down at their lapel pins occasionally.
Thanks for saying, Cindy, that which has become so frustratingly overwhelming, considering the daily assault, that I have not been able to articulate it.
I do not fault Pete Stark for his choice of words, because they spoke to an ugly reality, that Miss Nancy in her prim Elizbeth Dole suits, ruffled blouses and kindergarden teacher voice tones, would prefer not to disturb her beautiful mind with. She reminds me of the “total woman” stereotype, who serves tea in polite society, while the homeless sleep outside the gate where the winds howl.
Word is she is doing the PR rounds to boost those approval ratings in the gutter, claiming it is the Republicans fault–with her usual we-haven’t-got the-votes line. But, we know the deals you struck behind closed doors, we know about your hidden agenda. We know you have other options as #3 in line. We have watched your every capitulation and complicit betrayal. We have watched you admonish those who do stand up to power while you cower and can’t even keep your majority as a majority–or is that deliberate? We know about your political strategies and allegiances that form your inability to act in defense of your country and constitution.
You can’t fool us. You need to apologize to us, not us to you.
Nancy Pelosi, you are a disgrace that needs bloody fingers in your own face.

“We live in a nation hated abroad and frightened at home. A place in which we can reasonably refer to the American Republic in the past tense. A country that has moved into a post-constitutional era, no longer a nation of laws but an autotocracy run by law breakers, law evaders and law ignorers. A nation governed by a culture of impunity … a culture in which corruption is no longer a form of deviance but the norm. We all live in a Mafia neighborhood now.”

odoco - Unfortunately, for most people “facts” have very little value. In fact, as you can tell from things like the “Top 10 Most Dangerous Organizations in America” list on ThinkProgress.org, words themselves have very little meaning to many people, especially right-wingers.
I’m afraid what America needs is to be “scared straight”. Let Guiliani get elected, return Congress to the Repugs. Let them drill the country into the ground, all the while making sure everyone knows it’s them running the show. I don’t like this idea at all, but it seems like the only thing that has a chance to work.
Cindy,
You stand strong and NEVER EVER back down.
We are with you and back you 100%
America needs patriots now more than ever and you are certainly one of the bravest.
May God bless you,

Cindy,
Thank you for fighting the fight. Just wondering, why allow Pelosi to finish her term. Why can’t the loses be cut and recall the woman. She is not part of the solution. Isn’t that how Gov. Arnold did it?
Another touch down Cindy, great column. I hope you’re this aggressive during the campaign and I can’t wait for the debates, though I’m sure the witch will do everything in her powers to keep you out.
And as it has been the case with previous posts to you, I’m advising you to just fly commercial and watch your back. Remember Wellstone and Carnahan, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Democrats themselves were behind those mysterious plane crashes. Or Republicans, what’s the difference anyway.
Yeah, Cindy, I also knew that Stark’s impulsive honesty would result in his being branded Stark Raving Mad. And I knew that Nancy “Miss Manners” Pelosi would personally whack him– the bitch.
Even more disgusting and infuriating than the co-dependent Democratic leadership’s response, which was at least predictable, are the inevitable comments here and elsewhere that boil down– and I mean boil down– to, “I’m against the war…” or “I agree that we need to keep the pressure on the Democrats…” BUT. And it’s a big “but”: there’s no excuse for being impolite!
Of course, that’s the same pearl-clutching and fan-fluttering criticism that’s been flung at you ever since you became a public figure. It comes from people with their heads buried in the status quo, who’d like us to believe that the evils let loose by the misfeasors in power are due only to their rigid wrong-headedness and overreaching. They have an ant-sized perspective that if one remains polite, sticks to moderate criticism and supporting one’s political-party colony as if it were actually an “opposition” colony, and keeps the breadcrumb in their mandibles dry, that right will prevail by throwing the bums out and letting slightly less seedy bums in.
These cluckers are unable or unwilling to see that the evils that our political elite do arise from our compromised, corrupted, and broken polity. Or if they do see it, they believe that the process and policies will only be reformed by working within the malignant system, and nudging it back to health one polite increment at a time.
Even ostensibly progressive publications like “The Nation” are prone to head-shaking and tsk-tsking coloring outside the lines. This monomaniacal insistence on walking the narrow beige line of brittle civility is far more hysterical than the heartfelt remarks of a real “maverick” congressman, or Code Pink activists daring to remind Misfeasor Rice that her actions have let loose a tsunami of the blood of innocents.
They should have drenched Rice in blood, like Cissy Spacek in that famous scene from “Carrie”.
Thus endeth the rant. All the best, blah, blah, etc., as usual.
Go Cindy! ♥
Nancy Pelosi is beyond disappointment, she is a traitor to the Democratic party and the people it’s supposed to represent. Pelosi and Reid are the wrong “leaders” for the most important fight this country has seen in over a century. They can’t even identify this Bush administration as antithetical to the basis of our country via the constitution, let alone criminals that belong on trial at the Hague. I cringed when I heard Stark’s apology.
Cheers to you Cindy for always speaking Truth to Power. Keep it up, I wish I lived in your district so I could vote for you.
“Well-behaved women seldom make history.”
Guess we know where Madame Pelosi stands in the grand scheme of things. She, like Condoleeza Rice, is a properly dressed and coiffed mannequin.
Little Brother: “…the narrow beige line of brittle civility…” Great words.
Why do people insist that there be civility from people on our side? The other side is anything but civil.
The Dems have long forgotten (going back to Reagan time) that an opposition party’s job is to oppose, not to make nice and be bi-partisan. To the Dems bi-partisan means give them what they want. To the Repubs bi-partisan means tell the dems to **** themselves.
Mr Stark was, if anything, too polite is his comments about the malformed turd in the White House and he gets pummelled by his own!
This is an example of why I, and more and more like me, are no longer Democrats. They don’t fight the Repubs with the same dedication and enthusiam that they fight Ralph Nader and any Dem like Stark who even approximates the truth.
They have no will to fight the Good Fight. Only the will to perpetuate themselves in office and save their perks. No wonder their increasingly alienated base sees them as an increasingly irrelevant, if irritating, distraction.
Cindy, once again, speaks the truth.
How refreshing it would be to have that voice in Congress.
How refreshing to see the Headlines “Speaker of the House Loses to Novice.”
How refreshing to hear the TV teasers “Sheehan beats Pelosi. Film at 11.”
Cindy Sheehan for Congress!
What Stark said was an understatement. It was an extremely polite and quite accurate description of what is going on.
The war is unneccessary, illegal, sadistic and serves no rational purpose.
Amusement is a whimsical but very accurate description.
I concur with the other posters here: Cindy for Congress!!!!!
Maybe we can enlist the support of the CodePink ladies to help Nancy pack the belongings in her office!
Thank you, Cindy, for your courage.
My check to your campaign goes in the mail today! I challenge everyone else posting to this article, as well as everyone reading it to do the same. GO CINDY!
It is strange how many people seem to think it is impossible to beat Pelosi, given that she is part of a system that is polling even lower than Bush. IF our country is ever going to have a heart, it seems to me we must start VOTING with our hearts. So far, it seems we are voting with our wallets, which has given us endless war.
Boy I sure hope Cindy runs a serious campaign and takes Pelosi’s seat. Our democracy truly needs someone to say what barely ever gets said. She’d say it each time and straight out. To all who keep trying to suggest that the way to get better government is to somehow not vote or let the fascistic Giuliani replace Bush and do even worse to our constitution and democracy …I say they are republican plants and they must think we are stupid. If you don’t like what the republicans have done let them win again and that will really make us mad. Yeah right.
People we need to elect as many new people to congress in 08 as possible because as we constantly see this status quo old guard does nothing to rock the boat and has definitely closed ranks. Naturally they see their incompetence, corruption and spinelessness as being no bar to their reelection. To save our democracy I suggest we develop an anti-incumbant attitude NOW when nominations for congress have yet to be set in stone. As long as they feel they need not pay a price for weaseling out of their duty and oaths the status quo weasels won’t. Aside from the few like Cindy who aren’t weasels… remember we need to elect as many new weasels to congress in 08…this same old same old semi-permanent batch we’ve got …has let us down. Let them down and elect new people. Good luck to Cindy’s election race. One less weasel in congress would be great.
“While Members of Congress are passionate about their views what Congressman Stark said during the debate was inappropriate.”
Ultimately, Pelosi is saying the elite and the rabble have irreconcilable views.
Pelosi is focused on the class war - the mother of all wars, the elite against the rabble. The Iraq war was an elite offensive that went awry and now the elite is in retreat.
The elites are circling their wagons - the elites are genuinely afraid of a rabble rebellion - today the elite’s lines are weakened on all fronts - political, financial, industrial, military.

Well, Jeffrey Dahmer, DeSalvo (the Boston Strangler), Ted Bundy all tortured animals when they were children…. so it doesn’t really surprise me to hear that Bush did, either, really.
I hope all of you are also writing to Pelosi et. al, as I am, to let them know that Stark’s comments, however brutal, were the god’s honest truth. Sorry feelings were hurt but they need to be; AND I am sick and tired of the Dem.s constantly acting like Quislings every time a Repub. hackle is raised. The Repub.s deserve nothing more than our contempt; they’ve shown no respect for anyone or anything outside their own little fantasy world and deserve to receive none.
Press on Cindy!
You put our feet on higher ground.
Love you Cindy. Take care of yourself. These guys are bad.
I agree completely with everything that Cindy wrote in this article. I have tried to contact Pelosi with letters, emails, and phone calls, and received no response at all.
Pelosi is no leader! She is a political hack, and supporter of the Bush crime family agenda! She is no representative of the constituants who put her into office! She is a power hungry politician who will do whatever she thinks it will take to keep her job! She cares not one whit about the American People, and
is in violation of the oath she took to uphold and protect the constitution!
NANCY! VIOLATING YOUR OATH OF OFFICE IS A CRIME! DON’T YOU WORRY ABOUT BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE?
She should be removed as speaker for her illegal stance of taking impeachment of this criminal administration off the table. That action alone is a violation against the constitution, which demands impeachment, to remove an administration that is breaking the law in plain view!
Shame on you Ms. Speaker! You are a disgrace, and an embarassment to the Democratic Party who put you in office! Do the right thing and tender your resignation, which in my estimation, is long overdue! It’s time to have someone in government who actually represents the citizens of this country, rather than out of control, war profiteering corporations, and an imperial presidency!
To Cindy Sheehan: Keep up the good work! You can count on my vote!
John Freeman - “It is strange how many people seem to think it is impossible to beat Pelosi, given that she is part of a system that is polling even lower than Bush.”
We couldn’t get rid of Bush in 2004 or Lieberman in 2006. Now Hillary is over 50% in primary polls, and even comedian Stephen Colbert is polling higher than Dennis Kucinich. When you combine this with the voting record of Congressional Democrats, it’s obvious that this country is - in reality - about 75% Republican. It’s been that way really ever since Reagan, and the Democratic Party has only served to cover up that fact. With all due respect to Cindy, I don’t see how a genuine progressive can get elected anywhere in this country, most especially in an elitist haven like San Francisco. While I hate to sound negative, I really don’t see much hope for the future of this country. Like the good people in Germany before WW2, I think all we can do is ride this fascist wave and hope we survive once the inevitable crash comes.
I wish I could vote for you next year. Pelosi is a disgrace.
Pelosi is a criminal.
It is to bad that this Congress does not know what an honest day’s work looks like. They make me sick. There is so much to do and they insist on snivelling over drivel
Can it really happen that a president amuses himself with the death and destruction he is causing? Yes, it can happen. It has happened before. Remember emperor Nero of Rome?
Go Cindy. Take her out!
Cheers again for Pete Stark’s so apt words — !!!
Gladdened my heart and brought tears to my eyes — !!!
What really frightens me are Americans who aren’t alarmed at what they have already seen — 20 years of bombing Iraq — two wars against Iraq — 2 million Iraqi civilians dead –
the “illegal” war — the torture –
and the increasing brutality of our own police enforcement which looks now more like Nazi troops than domestic police.
How can people can be in shock at what has already happened — leave alone consider another year and more of this - !!!! ???? How ???
Bush also advocated torture in the form of branding with a red-hot coat hanger while in college–for hazing incoming freshmen members of a fraternity. He defended it in writing, at Yale, I believe.
Bush shows strong signs of sociopathic disorder. As opposed to Cheney…who simply has no sympathy for any form of human life.
Regarding “It is imperative that Ms. Pelosi be a true leader…”
I have no hope the woman will redeem herself. She sees herself as the all powerful director of a grand theatrical production that only she in her arrogance, and that of other elites can comprehend.
Down with Pelosi, UP WITH CINDY!
Fear defeats more people than any other one thing in the world.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Full speed aheadf, Cindy!!! We need so badly to have people like you that know right from wrong and will speak out without first testing the wind to see if their words will please as many as possible. Our government is composed of brainless greedy warmongers for leaders and scared robots for Congress. I only hope our nation can survive until you and hopefully more like you such as Kucinich can take control. Pete Stark did a great job too, but only the members of the Robotic party are allowed to say what they think, no matter how rotten it is.
Great article Cindy, the best to you, your family, and your campaign.
Lobo Gris
RichM - “I don’t think Stark’s exact word choice last week (“…. get their heads blown off for the president’s amusement”) was particularly wise. But at least, his priorities were generally right. He was expressing something that merited expression.”
I think the choice of words was perfect. More fractures in the dam wall of decorum are required to end the naked emperor’s reign.
Yes Ms Sheehan: With all due respect, as a student of the situation for 40 years, an in-the-street activist for 4 now, (as well as a fellow grade-school student of Georgie’s in Midland in ‘53), an “obviousness”: the technocracy has become completely disconnected from any understanding of how actual people feel and think…but let’s not blame them! They are our own creations. Corporations and governments can not function as living entities…..a time is coming when massive breakdown of all systems is inevitable. We shall be called upon to reorganize, from the ground up. Preparing for this is our greatest challenge. We are entering a phase of complete rebuilding….
It is not impportant if you win any position within a decadent and incompetent governing body at this time, but it is important that people of your caliber Show the Way towards a more rational and caring future. Please continue to be the example we so urgently desire. The first step is a return to governance as nurturance, something you as a mother understand. No reason to get too strident or angry. Calm adherance to reasonable opinion in the face of such outright idiocy will take you far and advance our cause for a world of living within our means, of sharing , of adherance to the fundamental laws of planetary survival….go cindy!!!
Please note some of what does not move the Speaker of the House to opposition:
- war
- torture
- electoral fraud
- bankrupting the country.
Compare it to something that moves her to take a stand:
- Pete Stark’s word choice.
This should inspire some inferences about our political landscape and the culture that has produced it. I encourage fellow discussants to think this matter through and reach your own conclusions.
Hang in there, Cindy. You are doing great.
Stark was partially right; the psychotic monkey and his handler blow up people for their own amusement. Do not forget that they also do it because they are told to do it. Go after those who profit from their love of war.
Please don’t run for Congress, Cindy. Run for President with Kucinich as your VP.
And, if you can find the time, please marry me. I’m a sick 79 year old cripple so I won’t be in your hair for very long.
God bless you for being the real patriot that you are.
Pat Connolly
If a president invades a country under false pretenses, what could possibly warrant impeachment proceedings more than that? A million dead already and counting.
To make matters worse, the country’s populace overwhelmingly despise us, yet the President says we can’t leave because they need our help.
The three things the U.S. government must do to restore credibility not only with the international community, but also with Americans…
Stop sponsoring terrorism.
Stop proliferating WMD’s.
Stop crushing democratic processes at home and abroad.
Jamaz says, “Pelosi is a traitor to the Democratic Party and the people is’s supposed to represent”. Sorry, you are wrong Jamaz. Pelosi is just a normal Democrat doing what the money wants her to do. Who are these people you think she is “supposed to represent”? Get over it. The Democrats are not working for the working people of this nation. The sooner we face this fact the sooner we can get democracy in the U.S. of A.
Dems…Repukes…the same corporate stooges.
I hope I will see more Congresspersons braving the Congress’s rules of decorum and incurring the disapproval of its leaders - should be done again and again, just as the brave protestors again and again get themselves arrested for the sake of us all. Never mind if they are forced to ‘apologize’ - let that happen, but let them come right back, or others of them speaking truth to power. It is the “I am Spartacus” syndrome of an enlivened electorate, and those who do this as our representatives truly DO represent us.
Last night I heard a law professor on Bill Moyers’ Journal defending the presidential right to go above and beyond the law in a few special cases which merit such actions - well, if the president has that right, so does the Congress! And so, very much so, do the people!
I will rejoice when Cindy replaces Nancy.
ALOHA !!
GOVERNMENT IS ONLY AS HONEST AS ITS MONEY …
Before the US Constitution was ever written the Father of modern fiat banking and empire building first spoke the truth over 230 years ago.
“Give me control of a nation’s money and I care not who makes it’s laws.”
- Mayer Amschel Bauer Rothschild
Remove the private bankers, US Federal Reserve Bank, grip on the US Treasury and the US Dollar and you remove their grip on “We The People”! Its that simple … To do that you have to vote out every Rep and Dem and remove the two party aristocracy from power. Only one Presidential candidate understands that … RON PAUL!
I applaude Cindy’s enthusiasum for the truth … KEEP IT UP! I am an ex-Californian who just got plain sick and tired of the State’s taxes. As rich as California is the State is always broke and coming to the voters with their hands out! IT GETS OLD >>> Politicians are not the solution to the problem … THEY ARE THE PROBLEM!!!
