Prelude To War? World is Worried
The chilling report that the Pentagon is planning a "three-day blitz" targeting Iran hasn't gotten much play here in the U.S. The British press, meanwhile, has been buzzing with what the Bush administration's plan is for Iran, and the news isn't good.
The Times of London, which reported on the Pentagon's plans, has a source who claims that the U.S. is looking to launch air strikes against 1,200 targets in Iran.
The Department of Defense is always "planning" something. It's what a military does, scenario planning. But with the tough talk coming from President Bush and a series of odd bits of news (a proposed gradual troop drawdown from Bush and the jet carrying nuclear weapons over the U.S. "by mistake"), a bunch of grim theories are emerging.
We can engage in scenario planning, too. For example: Why would Bush want to start pulling out troops earlier than the date suggested by Democrats (a plan he shot down)? To send them elsewhere, perhaps? And the DailyKos.com reports that the base at which the nuke-carrying B-52 landed, in Barksdale, La., is "a jumping off point for Middle East operations." The U.K.'s Sunday Telegraph, meanwhile, reports that recently "a group of Bush administration staffers is gathered to consider the gravest threat their government has faced this century: the testing of a nuclear weapon by Iran."
Now, there may be no connection between those stories, but together, they certainly feed the frenzied mood surrounding the U.S. dealings with Iran, whose President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is hardly a cool-headed leader himself, dishing out his own brand of rhetoric. But according to the International Atomic Energy Agency, there's no evidence that Iran has weaponized its nuclear program. IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei said the U.S.'s standoff with Iran is "a reminder of pre-war Iraq...Based on the evidence, we have, we do not see ... a clear and present danger that requires that you go beyond diplomacy."
A ray of hope comes via news that former Iranian president Hashemi Rafsanjani (a moderate compared to Ahmadinejad) has been chosen to lead The Assembly of Experts, a clerical body that handpicks the country's supreme leader, a position higher than that of the president. So the hardliners' days in Iran may be numbered.
The U.S. already has lost a tremendous amount of credibility in the eyes of the world -- so far, the most dangerous stash of Iraq's chemical weapons we've found have been stored at the United Nations Building in New York since 1996. While our president may think he's a cowboy, the fact remains that we can't go it alone in this world. We need allies. We need good will. We need real, sophisticated leadership.

"While our president may think he's a cowboy, the fact remains that we can't go it alone in this world. We need allies. We need good will. We need real, sophisticated leadership."
What amazes me about the above statement is that its even stated. Of course we need "allies", "good will" and "real sophisticated leadership", but it isn't going to happen because the cowboy doesn't believe any of it and as long as he is in power he will do what ever he wants, when he wants to whom ever he wants and he doesn't give a shit what anybody thinks!
So what's my point? Instead of just another article by a newspaper lamenting how bad things are why aren't they using their bully pulpit every day to call for impeachment?
Same stale crap -- nobody's buying it.
Historical lessons, current events, and rational interpretation of intellegence had normally precluded egotism & theocracy for major decisions in our republic. Unfortunately, this is not the case now.
The current administration is manipulated by the ego, the energy cartel, &; the radical religious right wing to an extent never before experienced in our history. The invasion of Iraq, the suggestion to invade Iran while supplying arms to other Mid East States; & the dreadful war on our environment are only some examples.
Unless Americans begin reacting to logic rather than rhetoric, and take back our government from this illegally placed administration now, the rights that we have enjoyed for two centuries may evaporate--and we can blame ourselves for this
Of course, this is certainly no time to panic. However, the 911 anniversary is on Tuesday and we must do whatever we can to avert another disaster. So I suggest calling, marching, sitting-in, praying, meditating, and whatever other non-violent means one can think of. Nothing is inevitable except peace. www.thepeacealliance.org
The US WILL be alone if they bomb Iran. I really can't believe that any other country will accept this. (maybe Gr. Britain but I seriously doubt it) Even worse, what happens if other countries have to choose sides. Is it a given that America will be backed even by word? Will countries line up against you who normally would give you at least an OK? Probably!
Insane and dangerous people are best identified as such by representatives of society, and restrained so they cannot be a harm to themselves or others. Its up to the nations of rest of the world, particularly China, Russia and Europe, to restrain the US by spelling out serious consequences to itself of carrying out aggression against Iran. Threats of sanctions, and currency actions on the US dollar would be appropriate. Failure to restrain such murderous intentions of the US would be a great moral failure for all of us. The not-denied threat to carry out bombing of Iran, is another example of mass collective punishment, carried out by the US, that we are all too familiar with.
There is no long term strategic gain for an attack on Iran. The world has reached peak oil already, and all the mass bombings supplied by all the munitions factories of the US will not get it one drop more, nor make one Israeli any safer. If it occurs, the resulting chaos may mark the termination the oil age. Of course if we want to shut down the current explosive growth of the human race sooner rather than later, chaos and destruction seem the way to go. It won't be pretty. A far nicer way would have been world mass contraception and population regulation, like China's one child policy. But its now too late for that, and not an easy policy to adopt. Human beings are a world disease, and need regulating.
As long as Cheneybush's next illegal massacre doesn't interrupt the new fall TV schedule, Americans will care as much as they do about 150,000 dead and wounded US soliders, over a million dead and wounded Iraqis, the end of New Orleans, and the near total elimination of our Constitution and Bill of Rights:
Not. At. All.
I can't help wondering if China and Russia welcome the actions we are taking now. Whatever the outcome of the present action in Iraq and the possible action in Iran we will emerge a seriously weakened country.
The average Iranian is an under
35yrs,urban,educated,progressive.The Mullahs have a very tenuous grip over their citizens mind-set.An attack by the U.S. now would push the Iranians into the pro Mullah camp once again.
Although we know that BushCo is an extremely dangerous gang of thugs, that knowledge alone does not justify the publication of this type of article.
We've already been served this sort of alarmist writing many times over -- in fact, just last week, a piece about an imminent aggression against Iran was posted at Common Dreams.
This one just rehearshes the same British sources. It adds nothing to the previous ones. The evidence for the alarm is just too slim to be convincing.
How about taking into consideration all the counter-arguments and counter-evidence to this alarmist scheme that have been set forth in this blogging column? Only a writer who does that convincingly and with fresh evidence (and quoting some unnamed Washington official or hearsay will not do) might be worth taking seriously.
"The Times of London, which reported on the Pentagon's plans, has a source who claims that the U.S. is looking to launch air strikes against 1,200 targets in Iran."
Murdoch's Times of London presents the wishes of MI6 and its American cousins. Now we just have to get used to the idea of bombing innocent people like we did on September 11, 1973. The ghost of September 11th past.
Iran must be on a hair trigger alert. What if they think we are attacking them and release all their silkworm anti-ship missles at the sitting ducks in the pond(the three carrier groups we have there)? Use them or loose them,eh? There are all those oil tankers, too and the Strait of Hormuz is not that wide. Gas at $10 per gallon, anyone?(not to mention the unspeakable tragedy of such an event).
If they attack Iran, I will be convinced that the corperate oligarchy is really trying to bring down America's superpower status, making it submissive to a world government under strict controls.
Keyman 12. I agree these criminal war mongers should already be impeached and run out of office. The rightwing media includking newspapers have given this illegal administration a free ride because most of them are owned by people who want to destroy The United States and yet they let Murdoch buy the WSJ so he can turn it into another Fox outlet. This spineless congress especially the rotten republicans are to blame for what's happened to this country.Mitch McConnell the worst senator ever elected from Kentucky block's everything the democrat's try to do and the democrat's give up with the excuse we don't have the 60 votes to over-ride a veto.I hope the democrat's get complete control of congress and the White House so maybe they can get something done and tell Joe lieberman to kiss their a--
Democrats getting control of congress and the White House won't change anything. America will still be in Iraq for years and innocent civilians around the world will still be butchered in the of name of American corporate profit, in many different wars for the next 50 years.
As for the article above, not only will the US bomb Iran but it'll also use nukes. This week we learned that on August 30 the United States Air Force flew a B-52, locked and loaded with nuclear warheads, from North Dakota to Louisiana. This broke a military policy going back to the 1960s against such flights.
And we're lucky if it's just that, Bush and Cheney are fully capable and willing to use nukes to stage another 9/11 on American soil.
I, too, hope other nations make clear that there will be repurcussions for this kind of war of aggression. As if the fabricated "fixed case" made for war with Iraq has resulted in any bed of roses, anything worth emulating! As if the killing of nearly a million, rendering 2 millions refugee, exposing so many to DU (including our own troops) is a performance worthy of an encore into Iran! What--short of Divine intervention--will bring this band of murdering thieves down? It is horrifying to stand by and take affirmative actions that appear to stand impotent in the face of such resolute evil, that of our nation's pro-war (beware the military industrial complex) prostitutes and their dance with death... for others in huge numbers.
An invasion of Iran is the end of civilization as we know it- the neocons and the Zionists and fundamentalists will ascend to heaven in the rapture as the ice caps melt, rampant diseases spread, populations turn into self-consuming cancers with the elites ensconced in their walled cities-
I regret to say that the writing is on the wall- how can this idea even be floated around with any degree of credibility?
The consequences are apparent- Turkey, Syria, Russia, China, Venezuela take the side of Iran- with Israel and leading the way (only 869 children have been killed in the past year by 'accidental attacks' of the IDF)
Are we ready for this? Even the Internet, while a great tool, is also a great tool of surveillance-
Satellites watch from outer space penetrating even underground bunkers- paranoia? No, reality.
All free thinking brothers and sisters in this dying world- wake the fuck up before you are woken up by being herded into a concentration camp, or a more 'kinder/gentler' slow death: poisoned by all of the wonderful additives, GMO's, designer diseases. Read Guy Debord's last book- That is what is happening and these are the times to let go of any sense of security- our entire lifestyle is a goddamn house of cards that can imploded at any second- do any of you realize how fragile our lives our - image- no oil, no running water, no electricity- we would all be in dire straights. WAKE UP NOW- THROW OFF THE CHAINS OF MENTAL CONDITIONING- this is it- believe me, when the dam breaks open, next year, 10 years from now, tomorrow?- it will hit you like a ton of bricks. The Seattle Post editors are looking far and wide for allies to come join the Great American Criminal Enterprise, to help build the American Empire. Hey, will somebody please join us in building our empire so we can dominate you? Please get in line!!
Sick, pathetic.
Fortunately, more and more people are waking up to reality and are rejecting the koolaid. DEFENZ is in its "last throes, if you will".
I posted this on another thread.
my question is how many of the protestors/voters (not just here, but anywhere during the upcoming week) are going to turn around, be braindead and throw their votes away on Hillary, OBama or Edwards… all of whom are going to continue these imperialistic, self desctructing foreign policies.
We really need to vote republican in 2008 and 2010, and let me explain why. When the fascist imperialists run America into the ground, we need it to be on record that it was the republicans who did so- or at least, the corperate plutocracy. Keep in mind that electing "democrats" hasn't changed a damn thing in this country, and neither will voting for any of the three imperialistic "Dems" above, so there's really no point to voting Democrat-
it makes no difference which party you vote for. Kucinich is really an Independent-non-affiliated, and not a "modern democrat" (ie a worthless democrat.
When a substantial portion of these protestors, and those against the imperialistic foreign misadventures, still nevertheless cast their vote for those warhawk/imperial dems, Hillary/Obama/Edwards, i don't want to hear them complain or be suprised when the imperialism continues. They're getting what they voted for.
How is something like 85% of Democratic voters against the Iraq war, against further strikes in Iran going to be duped into voting for any of those three democrats??? it's beyond belief. and those three dems are in the lead BY FAR. less then 10% going to any other canidate. 1-2% Kucinich. Now the Neo-cons have a short memory, but these "Democratic" voters are just a step behind them in the race of towards creating dellusional realities.
Worst part is it's going to happen. 90% of democrat voters + are going to vote in an imperialistic President. So the election in 2008, much like the election in 2006, is all a moot point; it's an excersize in stupidity. We didn't get change with 2006, and we certainly won't in 2008. And again, if you think we will with any of these Dem canidates, sorry to say again, but you're nearly as dellusional as the Neo-cons who think we're winning in Iraq.
I think each of us at this time must therefore take stock of our individual evolutionary progress, and decide whether we are ready and able to make an "Ascension" up to a higher plane. Away from the patriarchal domination that the worshippers of Mars have subjected us to. This will mean undertaking a fundamental change from our previous concentration on a survival-mode mentality, with its subjective development of self-interest, competitive individualism and tendency to domination of those weaker and less capable than us, to a more cooperative spirit embracing a new code of "service to others", expressing new levels of mutual tolerance and unconditional love.
I'm with you rainbow---but it's alittle bit lonely nonetheless.
I wish that when Bush does something, they would not blame me by saying the "US" is doing it. I am an American that had absolutely nothing to do with his selection. On the contrary, I fought it every step of the way. Most of us are his victims and should not be blamed for neocon atrocities any more than innocent Iraqis should.
WWJD? What Would Jefferson Do?
Answer: Revolution, Impeachment, Removal of Standing Military in favor of defense militias.
VOTE KUCINICH '08!
ezeflyer September 9th, 2007 10:15 pm
Don't worry ezeflyer. There are many people, though mostly not Americans, who are well aware that democracy in America is an illusion, and that we're run by a corperate oligarchy, not by anyone who represents our interests.
rainbow. Great! Another kook, you obviously have no concept of the word evolution. You don't evolve over a lifetime, you mature. Evolution takes millions of years. To bad we don't have any million year old voters.
The next oil (cold) war(s) are already being fought in Africa. This time with the Chinese.................
we need to be worried. i just don't see a light at the end of the tunnel or a rainbow after the level five assault of hurricane bush these past six years. he is going to do something big to restore his place in history and to counter his family reputation as the ne'er-do-well. 9-11 was a small sample of the destruction that may befall us if we attack iran. bush has already established a divergent and roguish policy agenda that has put the world on notice that diplomacy and cooperation have outlived their usefulness. we have been so gullible and distracted that people refuse to even entertain the thought that perhaps our president may not mentally or pshchologically fit to handle this job and that those in his administration have personal agendas that have nothing to do with the general welfare of the republic. if we survive this presidency and bush does relinquish the seat of power to the next s-elected successor, our country will be mess and they will be billionaires many times over. this administration will not only go down in history as the most incompetent and corrupt presidency ever, but it will be marked by its curious accumulation of selfish, cynical, malfeasant, psychologically damaged individuals gathered together in this one point in history.
I am very, very surprised at the number of comments here, that express the opinion that Bush won't order our military to bomb Iran. He does not need any support from other nations, but Isreal will support an air strike.
RTDRURY, Do I mis-understand you? The way I read the article, the editors are 100% against Bush and any sort of attack against Iran.
This we can be assured of, if our military bombs Iran, nukes or no nukes, we will most certainly have a depression. If we don't bomb Iran, we most likely will still be in a depression within the next six months or less. The handwriting is on the wall and it's there for anyone who cares to read and understand it.
When the depression hits, if you are not fully prepared for the anarchy and mayhem that will follow, you will very likely be one of those who will be among the dead.
So Bush-Cheny feel we need to invade or bomb Iran now since we have made such great progress in Iraq. Well, it is not likely anyone can stop that, and after all, shouldn`t we use those aircraft carriers full of planes, missles, bombs and Lord only knows what else before bringing them home? We might as well make it interesting and help with the cute slogans, maybe BOMB FOR JESUS, FREEDOM NUKES, MUSLEM MISSION, RAPTURE READINESS,
DU FOR DEMOCRACY, DESERT DISINIGRATION, YOU TAXES AT WORK, etc.
You know, friends, we sit here and deride Conservative Americans for being the braindead sheep that they are, easily manipulated and controlled. And it's easily to call them out on this.
But here's actual scientific proof that they are, in fact, braindead and intolerant.
http://www.latimes.com/news/science/la-sci-politics10sep10,0,5982337.story?coll=la-home-center
and this is just one example of how braindead they really are. So when we're on here making the point that they're braindead, keep in mind it's because that's the observation and fact- it's not name calling if they really are braindead, no more than it is to call a dear in headlights dumb. It quite simply is a fact of life.
Does anyone else wonder that Bush, who would defend anyone's 2nd amendment right to protect themself with arms, is so adamant that Iran doesn't have nukes, the global equivalent to 38 revolver under the pillow? WHILE at the same time reserving that right for himself in spades. It's always been a little baffling to me how this is rationalized. What, tan people can't be trusted with WMD? The Chinese have them so I guess yellow doesn't count. The Iraelis have them; I think if I were leader of Iran I would work night and day to get my big stick.
"The Times of London, which reported on the Pentagon's plans, has a source who claims that the U.S. is looking to launch air strikes against 1,200 targets in Iran."
Interesting, but most Americans won't read these articles, or if they did, they wouldn't understand or care about the consequences of another war, this one against Iran.
We've got much more meatier fare to digest, like the latest blonde bimbo antics or which sports figure is taking HGH.
Such is the state of this nation. Quite possible, the most ignorant nation on the face of the earth.
"OMG" CNN is running a FOX News story about Paris Hilton farting in public!!! "OMG"!!! "OMG"!!!!
Ummm,
Is it still Congress that has the sole power to declare war, or can Bush and co. still use the powers given for Iraq? What am I missing here?

I really think, and this is speculation, that the Dems current lukewarm stance is one to secure the vote in 08 over actual policy beliefs. Politics over ideals. The GOP is looking bad in the next congressional race as well, giving it a good possibility of losing more seats in the senate as well. If the Dems secure both executive and legislative branches even with a tie in the Senate, they still win with the VP breaking ties there. If they take hold of both branches I foresee a big change in rhetoric, although not one in corporate obligations. In other words I wouldn't believe anything being said in a run up to election except for maybe Gravel and Kucinich. They're banking on the presumption that people are finally tired of the political crap, whereas the others are assuming that the majority are all still spoon fed, TV watching idiots. In my opinion both are correct, but which has the most numbers will yet to be seen. History shows the later to always win that gamble.

Interesting, but most Americans won't read these articles
yeah, like most people didn't hear about the 5/6 (give or take) nuke warheads that were mistakenly transported somewhere. i didn't see that on yahoo or bbc............however there was a really intersting article about paris hilton sueing a card company for using her picture. wow, wasn't that really good news?????????? OMG OMG OMG..................
The U.S. is both coward, criminal, and now is turning into a mad dog fascist, and this has not gone un-noticed by the world. The history of recent wars shows that this coward and predatory regime always picks on easy targets. It is also a criminal regime because it primarily attacks and destroys other peoples infrastructure such as water supply systems, electrical facilities, telephone systems, and the like, which have no military value, but are intended to punish civilians, as it did in Iraq, and as Israel recently did in Lebanon.
An attack on Iran would unfortunately bring further shame on the people of the United States, even though the majority is against Bush's control of the Middle East and his oil wars.
Also, an attack on Iran is not going to be limited to a three-day bombing blitz, because Iran is not going to roll over and play dead. Bush will get his ass kicked so hard he wouldn't know what hit him. Perhaps Bush may now be able to salvage something and get the hell out of Iraq, but an attack on Iran would drive it out of the Middle East for a long time. Unfortunately, even ordinary U.S. citizen may become targets throughout the Middle East after such a war.
Notwithstanding, Bush is just posturing as the downside of the attack overrides its benefits.
Saila is right. We in the U.S. are out of control. We don't control our media or our elections anymore. Dr Strangelove is in the driver's seat, and this is going to set off aggression by the other building superpower: CHINA
What a poor example to the world is monkey bush. Even his daughters must be ashamed (and afraid) of him. He cares not for the world they will have to grow up in, and he is not smart enough to understand that second term presidents are supposed to make a departure from their constituants and do what is good for the United States; not what is good for Cheney's pocket book and for the pocket books of the oilmen who got us into this global warming mess in the first place.
These guys are war criminals and history will judge them harshly. The U.S. using nuclear weapons not as deterance, but as offence for oil company domination, with so many players at the nuclear table is going to be answered by another nuclear regional conflict somewhere since we have set the example. And the fallout does not stay regional. It will leak up to the tropasphere at 40,000 feet and circle the globe, abeit in diluted form, and fall on your house. It only takes one atom of Plutonium-238 to cause lung cancer in you or your children.
We have to put a net on this wacko religious fanatic crowd who have hijacked the white house. They think they are playing a role in the book of revelations, for christ sake! They want to die! They are worse than the Islamic wackos because they have their fingers on the button!
Do Something.

I wish I could rebut half the angry, vile things people are saying about the US, but almost all of the angry, vile things are true.
The United States is falling, not only in the eyes of the world, but as a superpower and civilization.
All I ask is that the angry citizens of the world not judge the common people of America too harshly. They are peons, serfs, and pawns. Everything that is happening in the United States is in the hands of filthy rich elites, who control the economic system, Congress, White House, and Press simultaneously.
Ordinary Americans muse about Paris Hilton and American Idol, instead of flag-draped coffins or human rights, because that's what they are forcefed.
How the U.S. Government has managed to fund these wars?
PAUL FROM TEXAS
yes we know they are being forcefed, (but they aren't forced to buy a television are they, or forced to watch msm.) i and many others here have managed to see the light!!! i too muse about stupid things, but act on important things. that's the difference....and i care about my environment and the other beings i share it with. i think basically people are just too lazy to do anything. if only the rest could see the light and act en masse then all this would stop..........
by the way, in addition to the 5/6 well travelled warheads, check out common dreams article: under the radar: ten warning signs for today, published on july 22, 07. item 4: loose nukes. this didn't get much play either in the media............

While most Americans may not, I believe most Americans are aware of the rumors circulating. My guess is 2/3 dismiss the possibility out of hand on the assumption that a missile strike on Iran would be an act of utter lunacy, and that no sensible political or military leader would even consider it. On the other hand, the other 1/3 think it's a great idea.
What I don't understand: Every congressman has heard the rumors and every congressman knows we've got a lunatic running the show capable of anything. Yet there's not a peep of protest out of any of them.
Israel wants it.
Our politicians answer to them.
PACPLAYER: I see it the way you do.

hedology: Yes, the insane ones are in charge. (Be afraid.) EveningLand: The contraindicators are to be found on the internet rather than (for the most part) the mainstream media, which don't seem interested.
Some contraindications are to be found at: (1) The Proceedings of the Nat'l Academy of Sciences, 01/02/2007. Roger Stern of Johns Hopkins U reports that Iran will run out of oil for export within 10 years and therefore will need nuclear energy before its income shrinks that much. (2) The New Yorker, 03/05/2007. Seymour Hersh describes how Dick Cheney is funneling intel on Iran through his office, just as he did with that on Iraq in 2002/2003. (3) The LA Times of 07/15/2007. Ned Parker reports that "about 45% of all foreign militants targeting US troops and Iraqi civilians and security forces are from Saudi Arabia, 15% are from Syria and Lebanon, and 10% are from North Africa...." and "Nearly half of the 135 foreigners in US detention facilities in Iraq are Saudis...." Where is our outrage at Saudi Arabia, whose citizens are proven to be responsible for hundreds of American and Iraqi deaths??? Instead we get the ongoing demonization of Iran from The Generals in the Field and the administration and, of course, Senator Lieberman, who somehow conned 97 senators into voting to tell Iran to "stop killing us" in Iraq. [I would guess this resolution might be the "authorization" for the 3-day blitz, if indeed the blitz happens.)
Mr. ElBaradei of the IAEA has several times spoken out against a rush to judgment on Iran. At a conference in Europe earlier this year, he recommended not increasing but removing UN sanctions from Iran and to proceed with mutually respectful diplomatic relations. The Bush Admin's treatment of ElBaradei is to say that he has "overstepped his authority." (St Paul Pioneer Press, 09/10/2007).
Journalists who'd like to help stop the insanity can follow the "Iran" link at www.niemanwatchdog.org to an article on how they can help us avoid the next war.
We duped half the world leaders into thinking Iraq had WMD. The coalition support for Iraq was strong. After a time the nations leaders started to realize the fraud and only 3 of them hung in there after they KNEW the war was a fake. Those 3 countries are England, Australia, and The Philippines. These countries are nothing but puppets of the US and have no leadership of their own. Their citizens should be just as ashamed as ours if not more.
We fooled the world once we will fool them again. We'll cook up some semi-believable story on Iran's nukes, send Condoleeza Rice to spread the fear and promise the oil money, and BINGO they'll fall right into line behind bush. (The first one of these will be England and it's sad because they used to be respectable)
obviously a strike on iran would be disasterous on many levels and the possibility of such action is cause for concern. however, at this point i am inclined to believe that war with iran is not going to happen. while not overly abundant, there are some commentaries appearing these days that make good arguements against such action. http://www.counterpunch.org/goff09052007.html is an article in support of the not bombing iran idea.
essentially, threatening military action is doing more to support the u.s. position in iraq than an attack on iran would. an attack on iran would invite major blowback on the soldiers in iraq and their presence is necessary to secure the oil fields. all the bombing runs in the world would not secure them and could interupt the flow that we currently control. That is just one possible repercussion. ultimately though, i suspect that other nations realize our actions are contributing to our demise as a world power (pariah) and their patience will be rewarded.
the tide may have turned on this administration (and the empire), but that doesn't mean that they won't use every means to appear in total control.

mastershake. I could not agree with you more. I have been saying this for a long time. what I get from my Demon-crat friends is a blank Stare. They are delusional beyond belief. Voting in Amerika is for chumps. They made chumps of us all in 2000, 2004 and 2006. 2008 will be different. Right? Guess again. There are only two things that can change this. Both will take a very long time to accomplish: an end to imperialism and a return to some semblance of Democracy. One is to take this to the streets. Civil disobedience. Riots and violence in the streets are the only way FOX (and the rest of the corporate media) will put it on the air. It was the only way we got the word out during the Vietnam war and it will be tougher today. The second way it will end is when the US threatens the world. We are getting closer to that every day. Using Nukes in Iran would turn the world against us. The PIGS in Washington and Virginia think the US is invincible. Just like Hitler thought the German Army was invincible. Should the world unite against us we would not stand a chance. China and Russia are well aware of how week we are becoming. They will take advantage. If we nuke any country the world would be justified in rising up against us. Either way a lot of blood is going to run in the streets one day. It will make the Civil War look like a picnic.
Dear God he can do it on his own.
"Portions of the War Powers Resolution require the President to consult with Congress prior to the start of any hostilities as well as regularly until U.S. armed forces are no longer engaged in hostilities (Sec. 3); and to remove U.S. armed forces from hostilities if Congress has not declared war or passed a resolution authorizing the use of force within 60 days"

All he needs is 60 days and then must withdraw if no formal declaration of war is drafted by congress, but he needs no congressional approval for the initiation?
Why is this one of our laws?
