Bush Administration Accused of Putting Ideology Above Science
WASHINGTON - Testimony from President George W. Bush's former surgeon general last week has fueled charges that his administration has trumped science in favor of its political and religious ideologies.
The administration has been at loggerheads with scientists since it came to power in 2001 on issues ranging from stem cell research to global warming and the theory of evolution.
It stood accused again of putting ideology over science this week after the administration's former surgeon general charged that it deliberately quashed or downplayed several important health reports for political reasons.
Dr Richard Carmona, a Bush appointee who held the post as the country's chief health educator from 2002 to 2006, told a Congressional committee Tuesday that he was not authorized to discuss certain sensitive subjects in public.
They included embryonic stem-cell research, whose federal funding Bush restricted in 2001, the controversial morning-after pill and sex education.
Carmona admitted to lawmakers that when he had taken up his post he had been "still quite politically naive" but he was "astounded" by the "partisanship and political manipulation" he witnessed.
Health department spokesman Bill Hall rejected Carmona's accusations, saying: "It has always been this administration's position that public health policy should be rooted in sound science."
Michael Halpern, a member of the influential Union of Concerned Scientists, an advocacy group, said scientists believe the Bush administration is the "worst" ever in terms of political interference and censure.
"Information inconvenient to the administration's priorities is sidelined," Halpern told AFP.
In 2004, the Union of Concerned Scientists organized a petition signed by more than 12,000 scientists, including 50 Nobel prize winners and former senior science advisers to several US presidents, to denounce political interference by the Bush administration.
"Scientists believe that political interference is unacceptable," the petition said.
"If our policy makers are going to make fully informed decisions about our health, safety, and environment, they need access to independent science," it said. "Reforms can and should be put in place to insulate science from politics."
The petition has apparently had little impact on the White House.
In 2006, NASA's top climate expert, James Hansen, accused the administration in a New York Times interview of pressuring him to censure his research on global warming, notably during the 2004 presidential campaign.
His charges were confirmed by other staffers at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, leading Democrats as well as Bush's own Republicans in Congress to call for greater scientific transparency in the agency.
A NASA press official, George Deutsch, who was close to Bush's reelection campaign, was forced to resign after being accused by Hansen for barring journalists from interviewing him.
In his book "The Assault on Reason," former vice president Al Gore said that Deutsch, who has no scientific education or university diplomat, wrote a memo to scientists saying that the Big Bang is "not proven fact; it is an opinion."
"This is more than a science issue, it is a religious issue," Deutsch wrote, according to Gore, the former Democratic candidate who lost the 2000 election to Bush.

Science, when passed through a filter of political or religious dogma, ceases to be science.
When is the next comet coming to take all these madmen off the planet? That would be a good scientific thing to know.
Part of the problem here is that science is funded largely through the defense budget, and science is put to use principally in the US as an instrument of war.
Consequently, US scientists are in bed with the military machine. Since competition is fierce in science, and money is scarce, there is a major institutional incentive for scientists to cooperate with the political apparatus. So, the bullying of those that step out of line is a bit gratuitous.
Bush Administration Accused of Putting Ideology Above Science
June cover story from the news magazine "Well, Duh!!"
Why would anyone expect otherwise from the nice folks who want to destroy education in this country---- thus destroying the middle class. It is all part of an effort to do just that. Ignorant people are an easy mark for dominance. I sometimes wonder if they have already accomplished that mission.
I believe that real conspiracys are quite difficult both to maintain over time and even harder to keep hidden---- that said it is a truism that while people will lie to you, reality can be gleaned by watching patterns emerge in seemingly unrelated events. There is a strong enough pattern in the workings of the present "unelected administration" if examined, to convince any dolt that they are quite evil people and mean no good for anyone except their puppeteers. We must find whatever it takes to force impeachment, trial and public lancing of this boil on the backside of this country or our grandchildren and theirs may, if they survive, live in involuntary servitude---- something akin to mideval serfdom. This appears someone's goal and they are well on their way to it's accomplishment.
We have lots of experience with the NASA frauds. In fact we have evidence to show that the secret meeting of April 10th was actually not about the Inspector General but about BCC Meteorites. Astounding isn't it? Sometimets it happens. We accidentally ran into valid information on the internet that confirms this.
We posted this on SCIFRAUD

To the SCIFRAUD list and Mr. Kauffman:
When BCC Meteorites launched our analytical information on the geomorphology of stellar grain composition and cometary grain composition, NASA began to panic. Why? Because these discoveries overshadowed their pending Deep Impact-Tempel 1 and the Stardust Wild 2 cometary missions. Since they were aware of us, scientists for those missions began quietly releasing information on the results and not surprisingly, and lo and behold it agrees with our high temperature "micro-crystalline silicates" which we obtained from our sample analysis.

The federal agency that expended considerable resources pulling political and academic strings, up and down left and right, to shut down BCC Meteorites is at it again in fake science. NASA is scheduled to launch a mission this month (DAWN) to Ceres and Vesta (asteroids) to, as put by the mission scientist Christopher T. Russell (UCLA); "To bring high-resolution images of previously unseen worlds to the public, including, perhaps, mountains, canyons, craters and ancient lava flows". In addition to the images, Dawn will generate data that will help scientists identify geologic minerals and will take measurements of gamma rays and neutrons. The gamma-ray measurements will reveal which elements are in the minerals. The data are expected to arrive a scant 30 minutes after the spacecraft obtains them.
This is rather perplexing, because the scientific community has sufficient numbers of asteroid samples to study in the lab to yield the information Dr. Russell is interested in. For instance the lattice parameters at the molecular level in samples can be deduced to reconstruct the temperature and pressure conditions native to the asteroid. In addition, remote spectral sensing can be employed for whole body composition to reconstruct the entire mass associations for paring asteroid samples, hence reconstruct the entire body size.

So what is the mission really about? Let me relate it to a known example. When Dr. Kauffman was engaged in keyboard frenzy on Mary Sue Coleman; "she is a law breaker, a criminal, a fire breathing dragon unwilling to honor the voters' proposition 2 etc". I instructed Dr. Kauffman, "her conduct has nothing to do with minorities and their station". She is trying to preserve the federal funding that comes with programs for "helpless victims" and this sometimes means creating more victims to justify the programs in order to maintain the jobs for a homogenous race of people. He didn't believe me, went back to the minorities and checked, and lo and behold, I was correct!
So what is the relationship with this NASA fake science program? You have to see who is involved and who the players are? The military defense industry, Lockheed, Boeing and numerous military defense related subcontractors stand to reap huge financial dividends from the hardware associated with this and many other similarly situated programs. The academics involved also get jobs and funding for these fake programs. Of course the list does not have to believe this you can take it from NASA's own web site, in an interview with the Project Manager. Here is the relevant section.

Meet Dawn's Project Manager, Keyur Patel. The following interview took place at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California on May 22, 2006 between Keyur Patel, Project Manager of the Dawn Mission (JPL), and Education and Public Outreach team member John Ristvey from Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL).
JR: Since reinstatement, you've been re-establishing your teams and pulling people back on. How has that been going as far as getting back up from a 'stand-down' to a 'cancel' to a 'reinstatement' and then back up again?
KP: It's actually going quite smoothly because both institutions, JPL and Orbital, are both committed to making this happen--in fact, more than trying. They are in full support of bringing back the people that were on the project to begin with and then, they are letting the project handpick individuals for certain jobs and reassigning them from other jobs to make this mission successful.
JR: Can you tell us a little bit more about what you do when you're not managing the Dawn mission? Do you have other responsibilities at JPL?
KP: This is my primary mission; I have no other responsibilities at JPL. Dawn is it.
JR: Can you tell us a little bit about your career path that led you to become a project manager? Tell us a little about your background prior to coming to JPL as a project manager.
KP: I was in college. I have no background. This is the only place I have ever worked. In fact, it is by sheer accident I got into the space business, because my entire college history and study history is airplanes--aerodynamics. I started working here in the summer, and I've never looked back at an airplane yet.

2004 Budgeted for Dept of Educaton Bill, 80 billon dollars,. One University recieved over 1 billion of those funds and the admin got 10% for administrative cost and all the rest went into Defense, Pharm and Agricultural Research, not one red cent went into education for the individuals in all of the dispursals.Interrelated research projects such as Defence and Pharm were not labled chemical or biological research for military.
When one talks of Science being sacrificed it is as some have noted moeny being used in projects that have military applications and differing defense industry entitys fighitng over who gets what.
One of the greatest thefts of scientific knowledge that the poublic swalowed was the space shuttel program; in tyhat at its inception it was for civilain usage study of medicnes research not chemicals under low gravity, medical research and of course spqace research stars etc.
Waht it did was launch low level non permanent orbit satellites for the military.
Why no permanet because the shuttles cannot reach permanent orbit heigths.
the shuttle program diverted funding from research into fileds that could of put permanetn saelite even a true space station and all for military necessity projects was it carried forward.
Today we see research for bio fuels fed to public as saving energy when we know it will not, that it will in reality make the air more poisonous especially the ozone levels and the cost of food will go into the bio ag pockets of profits and energy will still remain in the same energy pockets also.
In many ways, science is a pursuit of truth. These guys want nothing to do with the truth. They try to avoid it whenever they can. When a good old fashioned lie will get you where you want to go, why mess with the truth? It will just get you into trouble.

This is just to advise readers that even though BCCM did level the same accusations against NASA on Scifraud, he never provided there any evidence to support his accusations.
