Gulf Arabs Won’t be Base for Attack on Iran: Saudi

Reuters staff

RIYADH - Gulf Arab countries will not be used as a launch pad for any military attack on Iran, a powerful Saudi royal was quoted as saying on Sunday.

Saudi Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdul-Aziz said Iran had no interest in striking its oil-producing Arab neighbors if it comes under attack from the United States. 0617 01

“I think the brothers in Iran are totally aware that … Iran will not be a source of harm for their neighbors and brothers … These countries (Arab neighbors) will not be a source of harm for Iran,” he said in remarks late on Saturday carried by state news agency SPA.

“Respect and consideration are mutual. I speak for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (relations) with Iran and for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC),” he added, referring to Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

Nayef urged Iran to hand over militants suspected of plotting against the kingdom.

Iran extradited a number of Saudi suspects to the kingdom in the past. Some of the suspects have been released after being cleared.

He also called on Tehran not to meddle in Iraqi affairs.

Sunni Saudi Arabia had accused Iran of backing Shi’ite death squads killing Sunnis in Iraq, and of backing an opposition front led by Hezbollah in efforts to bring down the Sunni-backed government in Lebanon.

“Creed does not justify intervention in Iraqi affairs,” he said.

“Creed does not justify intervention in Iraqi affairs,” he said.

He should practice what he preaches. One wonders what words he’d have for others intervening in “Iraqi affairs”?

Maybe it was a typo and the word should read “Greed”.

Since when should anyone believe anything that comes out of the mouths of a (Saudi) family that rules like medieval thugs, and is one of the main factors helping to keep the Middle East in the Dark Ages of yesteryear (and hobnobs with the obviously like-minded Bush Dynasty)?
The Saudis regime is the epitome of medieval, undemocratic governance in the Middle East, and was pro-Nazi during WW2, just as the Bushes in the United States. Their words mean nothing. Only their actions, overt and covert, demonstrate their intentions.
Too many misguided Americans are pointing their fingers at Israel for manipulation of US policy in the Middle East, when in fact they should be scrutinizing Saudi Arabia much more closely.

Israel, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are all poor allies you are correct Restore Democracy. All three do manipulate policy and all three have lobbies. However, the Israeli and Saudi lobbies are the two most powerful in that order. No one in Washington stands up to the Israelis or the Saudis. This is a huge problem and these two countries should stop meddling in American politics as they cause to many problems for Americans in the Middle East. There have been enough threads on commondreams on Israel so I’ll talk about the Saudis below.

As for Iran and Saudi Arabia they are playing out a proxy war in Iraq. The Saudis are arming the Iraqi Sunni insurgents and the Iranians the Shi’a in Iraq. In Afghanistan the Pakistanis and Saudis are funding the Taliban insurgency. The Saudis and Pakistanis were the main backers of the Taliban all along, majority of Taliban members have always been Pakistanis. Iran is against the Taliban coming back to power as the Taliban are Sunni, Iran is a Shi’a country. The Northern Alliance was mostly Shia’a as are the Hazara people in Afghanistan and they were backed by Iran prior to 911. In Lebanon the Saudis are backing the current gov’t and Hariri had close ties to the Saudis. Iran has some ties, not as much as the media claims, with Hizbollah. So basically the Saudis cannot be trusted on anything as they are always meddling behind the scenes. The quesiton is are they doing this on their own or is the US asking them to do it?

Oh one more thing to add to the Salafi/Wahhabi version of Islam that the Saudi leadership preaches they believe that Shia Muslims are infidels/kaffirs so this is the main reason they hate the Iranians. The Iranians are also ethnically Persian and not Arab and this doesn’t help much either. It doesn’t even matter that the majority of Iranians hate living under the Ayatollahs. To the Saudis the Iranians are a hated enemy.

Remember: Bush is a “uniter.” Perhaps this is early evidence of a united Arabia.

PLEASE remember that 16 of the 19 high jackers were Saudis, not one was Iraqi. Now why did we not go into Saudi Arabia?

Every time an attack in the middle east is eminent we hear the Arab leaders making statements on the news pertaining to their involvement.

    1. Someone or some organization in our administration wants to destabilize the entire region for the purpose of gaining lucrative contracts.

    2. A second front war increases the chance for a terrorist attack on American soil another 9/11 attack allows the president enact marshal law and suspend 2008 elections.

Yeah I know I read to much of that conspiracy stuff, but the patriot act allows this to happen, we don’t want #2 to happen. Time to call you congressperson.

    1. 9/11
    2. Patriot Act
    3. Rouge Administration
    4. Iraq War
    5. Iran War
    6. 9/11 Part Two
    7. Marshal Law - 130,000 Blackwater mercenaries to protect the administration with 90% of our military stuck in the middle east…
    8. 2008 elections suspended
    9. ?
