Joint US-Israeli Military Exercises Begin
JERUSALEM -- American and Israeli air forces Sunday began week-long joint exercises in southern Israel, simulating dog-fights and bombing targets on the ground, the army said.
Dozens of aircraft are taking part in the exercises in the southern Negev desert, it said.
Army radio said the exercises were taking place in the context of recent discussions between Israel and its main ally on the controversial nuclear program of the Jewish state's arch-foe Iran.
But an Israeli military source said that the exercises were "planned two years ago and are not linked to the situation in any country."
The US, Israel, and many Western countries fear that Iran's nuclear program is a guise for developing atomic weapons. Tehran says it is meant for civilian uses only.
Israel, widely believed to be the sole, if undeclared, nuclear power in the Middle East, considers the Islamic republic its arch-foe after repeated statements by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the Jewish state should be wiped off the map.

Show All[[Jewish state should be wiped off the map.]]- The press is getting a lot of milage off of that. That statement by Egypt was also was used to justify Israel's preemptive strike in the 6-day war.
I don't think Iran's government would use nuclear weapons in a first strike against a nuclear Israel!
Iran's government is on recored as not having a desire or intent to seek nuclear weapons. Alos the much touted quote is a misquote. The present leadership of Iran will pass with elections and become more moderate if we take the pressure off of them -- but that is not in the plan.
If anything our imperialist misleaders are trying to egg on a provocation so they can attack Iran in thier insane shortsighted desire to control the region (and of course it's oil).
The WMDs have Been FOUND ... in ISrael! With or without atomic bombs Iran poses NO Threat to Israel or US, with ~200 and 10000 atom boms, respectively (especially when "only" 100 are needed to end life on "this good earth", as we know it). What purveyor of Manifest Insanity among them is prepared to "bounce the rubble" of our world?
Iran is not a present threat to anyone; there is no proof they are attempting to enrich uranium for nuclear weapons; however there is proof that they don't currently have them and won't for 10-15 years, so the only reason they are preparing for war is if they plan a pre-emptive assault now. Isn't there anyone that can stop them from doing this?
The only real threats to the Middle East are playing war games together....aw, how cute
So if Liebermann gets his way, and it becomes an American policy to underwrite Israeli defense at all cost, what are the long-term consequences for the US?
1) Carbombs in our own streets, because we've opened a hornet's nest in Iran?
2) Permanent military presssure on Iran to ensure they don't develop nukes at a future date? In 2 years, 5 years, 10 years?
3) A policy of genocide? Kill every last one of them? A new Crusade?
Liebermann should scare the willies out of people. He's a case example of a politician who should be sent into a boxing ring to solve their tribal/ethnic/blood feuds among themselves, and leave common people on all sides -- who just want to provide for their own families -- the hell out of it.
there is absolutely NO doubt in the minds of most of the civilized populace of the world that George W. Bush is the most DANGEROUS person on our planet! If you disagree with that , take a look at all the international polls. If you agree with that , post a positive response.
