Will He Make Money From Our Dead Soldiers?
Before the Iraq war I thought Tony Blair had some courage and integrity because of the British support after the attacks of 9/11. Of course, we are very close allies. But when he went along with George Bush and the war of aggression when he knew it was wrong - we know that because of the Downing Street memos - he showed that he was as avaricious as the Bush administration.
I believe that Blair was used as much as Colin Powell was - for his integrity. I believe he gave a lot of credibility to the lies of the Bush administration in the eyes of the rest of the world.
He could have said to Parliament: "This is a bunch of baloney, it's lies - they are drawing up these false reasons for war." Why did Blair not say, "Enough - this will be an unmitigated disaster and it has to be stopped"?
If Tony Blair goes into a consultancy with a company that does war profiteering, I think it will be deplorable. Going on the speaking circuit would be making money from our dead soldiers and the hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqis.
As regards the Congressional Gold Medal, Blair must have got it when Republicans were in control of Congress. Second, it further diminishes what medals mean in our country. I mean, George Bush gave the Presidential Medal of Freedom to George Tenet, the former director of Central Intelligence, and Tommy Franks, former head of Central Command.
For all of these "honourable" people, their lies and their treasonous pre-meditated war, my son, and hundreds of thousands of others are dead or wounded. A country is being destroyed on a daily basis and "BushCo" is still free to commit their crimes against humanity. It might show a tiny bit of integrity for Tony Blair not to receive his medal.

Show AllI have believed for a long time that the U.S. President and Vice President should be charged in the international courts with War Crimes for the deliberate push to war for the profit of their cronies.
Both of these men should meet the same fate as Saddam Hussien because of the deaths and destruction they have wrought.
Because they are of the rich and elite, they will not face death at the end of a rope, but will retire, just as Blair, to a life in luxury and ease.
Blair for Bush is nothing more than Clinton's Monica Lewinski. if George W. Bush told Tony Blair to get on his knees and give him pleasure, Blair couldn't undo Bush's pants fast enough. He was Bush's lap dog. "Here boy, here boy. come to daddy." Blair, after being used by Bush, has no respect or integrity at all, just as Collin Powell was used and then thrown away. at one time i respected powell, but after all his lies and excuses, he's now nothing more than another crooked politician, the lowest of the low, as is Blair. But...what goes around comes around. their Karma will catch up to them one day, and hopefully soon. to me, Blair and Bush are nothing more than dog crap that i wipe off my shoes before entering my home. but that is what politicians do. why? because they have no conscious.
'Will he make money from our dead soldiers?' Has Ms Sheehan? Two books and it takes money to fly around the world.
'He did nothide when his COmmander in CHief sent him to war on lies even (though) he knew they were lies', Ms Sheehan wrote on 1st April 2006.
Was she marching against this illegal invasion? Nuremberg's 'supreme crime'.
If Blair had even a patina of apparent integrity it was only visible to certain members of an American audience intoxicated to the point of blackout by Anglophilia. My friends in London have the lowest opinion of Blair's integrity and claim to speak for most of their saner countrymen.
I would say that the odds of Blair refusing to financially capitalize upon his "cachet", post-retirement, by engaging with the likes of a Carlyle Group, approach zero. What possible magic could overtake this slithering murderer and devil's consort thereby converting him to high-minded philanthropist after a lifetime of hostility to honor and integrity?
Bush to Blair, "Sit Tony, sit. Good dog."
I would not fault Ms. Sheehan for making her voice heard. Yes, there is a mechanism to make this happen, which she has to be a part of. She has inlcuded many similar to her in the cause. That is, in fact, Democracy.
It is perhaps a sign of the times that someone from her social class can be make her self so heard. How long that will last remains to be seen.
Too much is made of a supposed subservient personality trait in Blair to Bush.
Isn't it so much more likely that both Bush and Blair answer to the same powerful elite partners? The boards of the major oil coporations (BP, Exxon, etc.) and war machine corporations are able to sway both leaders. Other business groups also go along with it because they'll be able to expand their markets.
Calling Blair Bush's poodle misses the structural pressures that make both leaders cooperate with one another.
Indeed, anyone who wants to be president or prime minister basically has to deal with these people and give them what they want. That's why Hillary has already told us what she'll do -- stay in Iraq.
Perfect outcome? Bush strangled with the entrails of Blair.
I agree with Roberto. Blair is not subservient - he is simply doing what someone in his position does. That is: pursues any policy that makes the rich richer. Blair, at some point in his life, realised that he was too wet to make it in Mrs Thatcher's tory party so he simply joined labour and moved it to the right with the willing help of the majority of the MPs or prosepective MPs who knew Blair could win election after election for them. They thought they would get a few mildly liberal policies out of it. He knew he would get very very rich and help perpetuate the oligarchy that runs Britian and the world.
There are still people in Britian who cling to the Labour Party as if it was simply hijacked by blair. It was not: so few MPs were willing to fight agains the war when it was entirely in their power to stop it. Even yesterday when they only needed 45 signatures for a "left" wing candidate to run against Gordon Brown they could not get find enough Labour MPs who were not too scared. It was a certainty that Gordon Brown would win the leadership race anyway, but Labour MPs are too scared or too right wing to even put forward a canidiate so they can have a few weeks of debate before Brown takes over. Democracy, as in the USA, never existed but somehow in the last 10 years in Britain and the USA it exists even less. I think because they can do anything they like, do it overtly, and get away with it.
Blair's greatest achievement? Provoking the single largest street demonstrations in British history - against him!
As long as he owns the crematorium! Blair is not like Bush who's family has more power and a longer history, this oligarchy is what he wants, he would have taken it for himself if he could have. The Bushs sold armaments to the nazis! The whole family wants to be back in royalty. Its all in the Bush family history. Blair just has what the Bushes wanted years ago. Now they all have mud on their faces for fighting dirty.
Speaking of...
Roberto, Would Hillary get her husband 'back' in office? Would she lie?
>Blair's greatest achievement? Provoking the >single largest street demonstrations in British >history - against him!

I hate to be the one to actually say it! But, they are making money hand over fist from the war dead. I am certain somewhere Bush has family money invested in this war! There is some reason he is so hard headed about keeping our troops in the middle of a religious Civil War. I don't believe it's because of the Iraqi people or his need to see Iraq a Democracy. I don't think he cares either way if that country ever survives our invasion. He doesn't have that much charater! He is only interested in the money and oil that's involved in the adventure.
Cindy were all for you and your stand against this war. But why not try a new tactic. IMPEACH! IMPEACH! IMPEACH! Help get this country mad as hell. Right now were mad but not mad as hell. Help light the fires of impeachment!!!!
Impeach Cheney FIRST, then dubyu.
Then send (as in "rendition") them both, in chains, to "The Hague" for due process.
Cindy,
My heartfelt thanks for your loss. HOWEVER, I was in the military for over 12 years, served in Desert Storm in '90 and '91. We needed to go over there then and we need to be there now. If I were your son I would be ashamed of YOU! Your son died doing what he loved, serving his country. If I had died in '90 - '91 I would have done so doing what I loved. It's a shame that anyone is giving you airtime and I'm appalled with your total disrespect for the memory of your son. I was proud of what I did in Desert Storm and am proud of your son, though I never knew him. Sorry for the loss of you son, but those are the chances that all men and women take when they make the 'choice' to join our armed services. It was his choice, not yours. Respect him for his choice. It's just a shame that we have to 'put up' with you.
Scott S,
Your "choice" was not to serve your country, your "choice" was to be and to continue to be an ignoramus.
Obviously you are not interested in reality or you would have understood by now the utterly false pretenses of the "desert storm" holocaust in which you brainlessly participated. You are not representing your country, you are representing a small group of war profiteers and the goons they implant into out broken political system.
Without fools like you, these monsters would not be able to murder innocent women and children by the hundreds of thousands.
Read a book, open your mind or simply shut up. Your military service does not entitle you to stupid opinions or to spew insults at your betters.

You insult me with "ignoramus", I'm "not interested in reality", more or less called me "brainless", told me I wasn't "representing my country" (I do know which uniform I was wearing), more or less called me a murderer, and then gave me 'your' choices of reading a book, called my mind closed vs. opened? and ending with telling me to shut up. Lastly you called me stupid. I can see that any opinion other than the 'status quo' is not welcomed by your 'open mind'. lol Oh! I missed one. You insist that your 'better' than me and accused me of insulting people. The only insults thrown seem to be yours. I'm not going anywhere and your going to hear a little more right wing conservative view than you have in the past so get used to it. Hold on tight, because the ride is just starting. It's time to fight back with (here's the insult) a little logic. Remember fd32, you have the right to the pursuit of happiness. It's was never guarenteed by anyone. Thanks for the insults!
